Junior School

Pentecost Sunday found that many Year Six students celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with their sponsors and families. Confirmation is a special sacrament as it is the last Sacrament of Initiation, the first two being Baptism and Holy Communion.

Our Year Six boys have had the opportunity to be a part of a 'Men for Others' series of talks which, along with "The Resilience Project", are contributing to our boys' formation. Darren O'Neill, our College Principal, addressed 'Mate-Ship' and how to be a good 'mate'. David Penco spoke of 'Vulnerability' being the centre of difficult emotions. Still, it is also the birthplace of every positive emotion we need in our lives: love, belonging, joy, empathy. 'Mentally Healthy Men for Others' was the title of our Junior School Psychologist, Alexander Brown, presentation. Compassion and care for ourselves, responsibility for our community, and looking after each other were key themes.

The boys' spirits were high on Tuesday for Cross Country. Every single student tried their best, and there was a significant competition between competitors. Students' mateship and respect for their peers, so they indeed demonstrated 'Men for Others' celebrating those who came first, second and last. I was very proud of the sportsmanship shown.

2023 Junior School House Cross Country Results

By Xavier Captains: Alex Costa, Vincent Tiller and Peyton Brown

On Tuesday, we had our Cross Country Carnival for the Junior School. The Year 4’s started the day off with a 1.5km race. It was a tight race, but in the end, Gideon Quinn-Smith came 1st for Campion.

The next race was the Year 5’s 2.5km race. It was a strong finish; the clear winner was Mitch Borman of Chanel. The day ended with the Year 6 race, our final Cross Country race for our Junior School life. Ultimately Reuben Quinn-Smith won it for the 3rd year in a row. The results were in, and Xavier was the winning house!

As Xavier Captains, we thank the staff for their help, the students for giving it their all, and the parents for showing up on a workday to cheer their kids on. A great Junior School Carnival for all!
