Infants

Infants students have been enjoying getting out in the sun for some active learning and games when we can, making the most of the sunshine when it appears! Please remember to pack a Boorowa Central School bucket hat (named) each day – our supply of spare hats is just for back-ups. If you are having difficulty sourcing any school uniform items, please speak to us at school.

This week we are welcoming our Kindergarten 2023 students as part of their Kindy-Start program. They will be joining us for two half days, followed by two full days for each Friday during November. We are all excited!!

K/1

Our K/1 students have been focusing on writing narrative recounts and they are getting pretty good at it! They have used various stimuli, including short animations and popular storybooks, and are remembering to include interesting and important details. Students have been keen to share their writing with each other and their friends in the classes next door, which is great to see.

All students loved visiting the garden with Ms Golden last week and were squealing in excitement when they saw how their garden beds were looking! All students took home armfuls of produce, including lettuce, carrots, radishes and herbs. We hope families all enjoyed a fresh salad with dinner that night!

Year 1/2

In the Year 1/2 classroom we have been challenging ourselves with our grammatical awareness. This fortnight we have been understanding and investigating the significance of compound sentences, and how conjunctions allow us to join ideas. Students have worked hard to experiment with combining different simple sentences by using a compound word. We have been using the ‘FANBOYS’ acronym to help us create our compound sentences. Students have enjoyed using more pragmatic and hands-on resources to help them with their writing knowledge. Next fortnight we are looking at transferring that knowledge into our imaginative writing unit.

This term, Year ½ students have also been exploring ICT skills. This includes working with computers, coding, and the school’s oz robots. In STEM this week, we have been learning about how robots are programmed, and how they can move with simple instructions. Students have spent time experimenting with special markers that allow the robot to move across a piece of paper. Next week we will apply that knowledge and use colours to communicate with the robot. We are excited to see what the little robots can achieve.

Primary

Well, we continue to battle the elements here in the Primary department! Through all of the difficult weather, I can't commend the behaviour of the kids enough. They have had repeated disappointments with Touch Football Carnival being cancelled, then our mini carnival being postponed as well as our Student Wellbeing Day all affected by the weather we are all experiencing. The kids have accepted that some things can't be helped, and it's a fantastic attitude to have when things don't go exactly to plan.

We are all looking forward to the Book Launch for Ms Corcoran's 4/5 class from 2021. They illustrated a picture book about wind turbines that will be launched at the Boorowa Rec Club on Tuesday 8 November 2022 at midday. All community members are invited to attend! Other schools around the region are also involved and our Year 4-Year 6 students will attend the launch.

All students are busy working hard during assessments at this time of year in preparation of writing the end of year student reports. Please support your children by ensuring they have healthy, nutritious meals and plenty of sleep. While assessment results aren't the most important thing about school, they celebrate the achievements of students, while also preparing them for success in the future.

5/6 Class

The 5/6 class have been busy completing assessments and starting new units of work this fortnight. We have finished our learning on 'The Piano' in English and moved on to the third book in Rob Ryan's 'Kingdom' trilogy called 'The Invincible Kingdom'. We have already read the first two books earlier in the year, and we are keen to see how it all pans out for our Young King, John.

In mathematics, we have been revising some position, mapping and co-ordinates learning - which we have applied to different games and real-life situations involving maps, board games and art. It's always good fun to be creative in mathematics. In science, we are finishing our unit on electricity - and have focused a lot on renewable energy and the demand for stable electricity in our digital world.

We are also looking forward to Healthy Harold visiting us next week. I can fondly remember my sessions with Harold during my youngest years, and it's such a valuable service that complements our learning. We'll be focused on the topic of 'Decisions, Decisions, Decisions', which explores safe and unsafe, and legal and illegal drugs and medicines. Please engage in some discussion with your children around this topic over the next few weeks.

Technology Mandatory

Year 7 have started a new topic looking at Digital Technologies. Students are using Edison Robots to learn how to code. This week the focus was around input and output.

Students used barcodes to play a game of Edison Sumo to finish off the lesson.
