AIC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS – 4 YEARS IN A ROW!!
With the clash of numerous sporting seasons behind us and our second season of trials all complete, we now head into Round 1 of our official AIC chess, football and rugby union seasons this weekend. All students have been waiting for a long time to have the opportunity to play their Term 2 sports this year and we know that everyone will be eager to do their best for their team and College. We wish everyone the best of luck for the season ahead and hope you enjoy the opportunity you have been given to play sport this year.
Every team is playing in their own competition “pool” and will all play in a FINAL on the weekend of September 11/12. This will be determined by results over the next three rounds, so every match is important. Where you finish in your pool will determine what final you will play in at the end of the season so every game counts!
REMINDERS
With the sports being played this season, particularly rugby and football where we play at multiple venues, our College is on display more than ever. Therefore, it is very important that our behaviour is reflective of our Marist values and our presentation is immaculate.
Arrival and departure times
- It is crucial that we are still following the “get in, play, get out” policy. Please ensure drop off and pick up times are strictly followed.
Uniform
- Come dressed ready to play
- Please do NOT wear non-MCA jumpers, hoodies or hats. You will be asked to remove these by staff and will be expected to do so immediately
- BLUE shorts only
Water Bottles
- Bring your own water bottle that is clearly labelled. We recommend you bring two to reduce the need to refill your bottle.
Sportsmanship
- Respect for players, officials and coaches is something we pride ourselves on. Keep each other accountable for the way we act.
War cries
- Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we are NOT allowed to do post-match war cries or pre-match tunnels. Please clap on the team the follows your match from the sideline without forming a tunnel.
ASSEMBLY PRESENTATIONS
At yesterday’s assembly, we briefly acknowledged the efforts of our Champion Cross Country team with the presentation of the Year 5 & 6 AIC trophy from Year 6 student Ben Hawley to Mr McLoughlin. We look forward to the presence of team captain Harry Hunter at our next assembly to wrap up the season in greater detail. We were also pleased to present our 1st IV Chess co-captains, Will Cruikshank and Henry Harris, 1st XI football captain Simon Mifsud and 1st XV rugby captain Nick Baker who each spoke with great pride about the honour of captaining a Marist College Ashgrove “first” team. These boys then presented their teams to the College and as usual, our Chess captains were very articulate in their use/overuse of “puns” to promote their season.
COVID-19 GUIDELINES
COVID-19 guidelines for all colleges we are playing sport against are clearly outlined in today’s newsletter and through our College APP. These will be strictly enforced from this weekend, so it is important that you and your parents are following the rules of each College.
Please make sure you are always following the directions of the staff at our College and our opposition colleges to ensure our competitions are compliant with the regulations in place.
Kind regards,
David Miles
