AIC Cross Country

COORDINATOR

Last Wednesday the MCA Cross-Country team travelled to Curlew Park to compete in the AIC Championships – the finale to a season unlike any other. Without any lead up meets to prepare, there was an air uncertainty from each school and where we all truly stood against each other – proven by only four points separating the top four schools in the Senior Aggregate standings. However, after a strong season of training, the MCA boys knew that they had done the work to walk away with the College’s 4thconsecutive championship title.

The effort, desire and determination that was on show, in conjunction with the teamwork, selflessness and camaraderie was second to none and manifested itself in a great squad effort all the way through to the final runner to finish in the Opens race. It was truly reflective of the unique ability that this year’s squad has shown to adapt and overcome to new challenges through this truly unique season.

The day started off on a high with the Junior runners putting in a great effort to secure a tied 1st place finish – the first in the College’s history. This is a result that is proof of the significant enthusiasm that existed within the Primary boys for Cross-Country this year and gives great hope for the continuation of the squad’s success well into the future.

Junior Results:

  • =1st – Junior Overall Aggregate
    • 3rd – Year 5
    • 2nd – Year 6

The defence of our Senior Aggregate title was highlighted by some strong efforts towards the back-end of the meet to work our back into contention after a bit of a slow start. Of particular note were the Under 13 and Under 16 age-groups who were able to come away with comfortable victories to win their respective premierships.

Senior Results:

  • 1st – Senior Overall Aggregate
    • 7th – Under 12
    • 1st – Under 13
    • 3rd – Under 14
    • 4th – Under 15
    • 1st – Under 16
    • 2nd – Opens

I must also mention individuals who were able to secure placings:

  • 1st – Tom Prole – Under 16
  • 2nd – Tom de Luca – Under 12
  • 2nd – Asher Parkin – Under 13
  • 3rd – Ollie Barrie – Under 15

Moving forward, we will be looking to celebrate our success as a group; however, due to the crammed sports training and playing calendar, I will be in further contact with the squad once we have been able to decide on a day that works for as many participants as possible.

Finally, I would just like to thank all staff who were involved in the program and contributed to our significant success. Head Coach Mr Shane Ward, Ms Elizabeth Kenny, Mr Christopher Hants, Mr Marcus Schrader, Calum McKay, Jacob Funk, Tom Smart and Brendan Saunders and Mr Corey Lucas. The dedication of early morning starts for nearly three months, bring the energy and enthusiasm that drives the great culture of the squad is one of the top reasons MCA Cross-Country continues to be the success it is.
