Early Departure Processes

Due to changes brought about by COVID-19, there have been restrictions placed upon us regarding parental access to the College during the school day. Thank you for your understanding in these endeavours.

One area we need to highlight is early departures of students during the school day.

In order to manage this situation more effectively, we request that advance notice is provided by parents wherever possible, as well as clear instructions being provided to students that an early departure is planned. This advance notice would be a note provided or email sent to the administration, which would see the student make their own way to reception at the allotted time. Once they arrive at the office, parents would sign them out in the usual manner.

If advanced notice is not provided, parents may have a slightly longer delay at the office while the student is located. If these collections are to occur during lunch or recess breaks, significant delays are possible.

Enrolments 2021

It may seem early to be actioning the enrolment of children for 2021, but we are currently experiencing a high volume of enquiries about places for next year from new families.

If you have other children you are considering enrolling, we would suggest that now is the time to act. There are already waiting lists in place for some of our year groups, so please don't assume places will be available by leaving it to the last moment.

Notice of Student Departure

We recognise that for a variety of reasons, some students may not be returning to us in 2021. Whether you anticipate a possible relocation, your child is hoping to secure an apprenticeship, or any other reason, we ask that you keep us up-to-date with your plans. It is a requirement for anyone leaving the College to provide a Term's notice - this helps us in our planning, and less than a term's notice does incur a financial penalty equivalent to a term's fees. So early notification is best for everyone!

With so many families keen to secure a place at Cornerstone next year, and waiting lists existing in many cases, your forewarning also allows us to help others with their planning as well.

If you require a Notification of Departure Form, please contact our administration team and they will ensure you have the correct documents provided.

Term Dates 2021

Next year, there will be an adjustment to our term dates, due to staff attending a National Conference as part of the broader CCM community. As such, the mid-year break will be moved earlier by one week and be extended by three days.

The dates for the 2021 school year will be:

Term 1: Monday, 1 February – Thursday, 1 April 2021

Term 2: Tuesday, 20 April – Friday, 25 June 2021

Term 3: Thursday, 15 July – Friday, 24 September 2021

Term 4: Tuesday, 12 October – Thursday, 9 December 2021

We love Mrs Posa!

We are blessed with some remarkable staff at the College, and one who regularly has brilliant feedback is Mrs Posa.

Not only does she capably work within our Learning Support field, but she's also a brilliant art teacher. This recent letter celebrates her work in the Primary years art program:

'My son has come home twice this term and demonstrated things he has learnt in art - one was a step-by-step drawing of a chicken and the other was a technique Mrs Posa had given him on using shapes to create the pictures he wanted to draw. It has led to a surge in his confidence and he is drawing a lot more and gaining more satisfaction from his finished products as a result. Previously he was so reluctant. It's a win-win because the increase in the amount of drawing he is doing will also help him develop his fine motor skills and that will transfer across into his handwriting, etc. I often feel the arts can be undervalued in education so I felt it was important to share this. Hope you can pass it on for me.'

The Great Book Swap!

Mr Meyerink is delighted to advise that last term's Great Book Swap was a great success!

Here's a note from him:

'Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your support in the Book Swap again this year. It is awesome seeing the kids read together, get excited about a new book and smashing a donut as a treat!

The total raised was $437.90, which is fantastic!!!

A big THANKS to Woolworths for their donation of 160 donuts!!'

We can advise that the brilliant kids at the Dunsborough Campus also raised a big sum of money - with $214.50 heading towards the Indigeous Literacy program.

Well done to everyone involved. We are so grateful for you all!

Playgroup Planning

In partnership with the Cornerstone Church, a playgroup has been running for some years in Busselton, which provides an opportunity for connection for parents with younger children.

COVID-19 disrupted their meetings, but they are keen to get going again shortly. However, Bec Pichugin needs a few others to say they would like to be part of the program, and to help her out.

If you would like to be part of the playgroup community, and especially to stand alongside Bec, please call the church office on 9754 1420 and they can pass your details on.

Primary Assemblies in Term 3

As we all attempt to navigate the regulations with regards to meeting together that this year has delivered, there are changes happening in our Primary Assemblies for the coming term. Students will be gathering together with to Celebrate Gods Goodness with worship songs and school updates with each class taking a turn to host the event. Unfortunately we are unable to invite parents to join with us at this point in time.

As we become aware of changes to government requirements, we will continue to let you know how this impacts activities such as our popular assemblies.

Year 6 Camp

A highlight on the Year 6 calendar is their annual camp - and we delighted to advise that it is planned for Week 4 of this term.

A mix of adventure, leadership, teamwork, connection and fun is what the week is about - and providing relational and spiritual opportunities is a key part of the success of these camps. Please pray for safety whilst the students are away.

Dance-It-Up

Another hugely popular program at Cornerstone, is our Dance-It-Up program and performances. Primary students participate in lessons at both campuses over this term, and finally present their work at the annual Open Night at Busselton and Learning Journey at Dunsborough.

Whilst our intent is for this to still occur, the changing COVID-19 restrictions mean the intent for the performances may need to change. Keep your eyes open regarding updates about this - but please take an interest in your child's participation as their lessons begin.

Primary Book Fair

The Book Fair is on! During Week 8 (8th - 11th September), the Book Fair will be unfolding. The process for purchases will change this year, with students taking their wishlist home, and purchases to be made online by parents. Students will then deliver their paid order information back to school and collect their books.

We will give clear instructions closer to the time, but for now, start thinking about Book Character Parade ideas to help us make the 2020 parade the best one yet!

Dunsborough's Book Character Parade is scheduled for Thursday the 10th of September, and Busselton Book Character Parade is on the 11th of September. Secondary students will also be participating in the Busselton parade.
