Family Mass 27/2/2022

A big thank you to all who were able to join us for our first Family Mass of the year.  The Mass was well-attended and our parishioners were thrilled to see so many of our students and their families.

Luke Gunning & Fr Vince

At Sunday's Family Mass, our friend and Catechist, Luke Gunning was presented with a Certificate of Service & Appreciation for 10 years of teaching the Special Religion Education.  Luke helps to coordinate our Sacramental Programs and also works in other schools in our local government area.  We are so lucky to have him - a former student of St Joseph's - as a Catechist.

Ash Wednesday

Students and staff will join with parishioners tomorrow at 9:30am for Ash Wednesday Mass.  The symbolism of Ash Wednesday is strong and stark. In the Catholic Church it marks the beginning of Lent when churches traditionally change their appearance. Vestments and altar cloths change from white or green to a sober purple. Statues are covered in purple and flowers disappear from the altar.

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent.  It occurs 40 days before Easter.

Ashes are placed on the forehead in the sign of a cross as a sign of repentance.

Ashes are gathered from the burning of the previous year’s

palm from Palm Sunday.

Lent & Project Compassion 2022

Lent commences tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd March. Each family will receive a Project Compassion donation box on this day to collect funds throughout the season of Lent.  This box is to be returned to school by the end of Term 1.  Thank you.

Sacramental Programs 2022

The Sacramental Programs will commence next week.  Letters will be sent home today and tomorrow with those children whom we know are eligible.  If we have overlooked your son/daughter for this letter, would you please contact the school.  Students who are baptised Catholic and in Year 2 or above (and have not previously prepared for this Sacrament) are able to prepare for these Sacraments.

Please contact me at school by telephone or email:  wrheinbe@arm.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation lessons will be held as follows:

Wednesday 9th March    (Commencing Week 7)

Wednesday 16th March

Wednesday 23rd March

Wednesday 30th March

Thursday 31st March

(First Reconciliation 6pm - St Brigid's Church)

**  All lessons will be held in the Fr Stan Campbell Hall at 3:50pm.  A Parent/Carer is required to attend with the candidate each week. **
