YEAR 6 BALLARAT TOUR CAMP EXPERIENCE

This year, our school has made the decision to conduct a 4 day Ballarat tour for our Year 6 Camp experience. This will be an exciting experience exploring aspects of immigration and the gold rush at various sites across the Ballarat area. The camp also provides the opportunity to promote independence, resilience, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Details of the camp are listed below.

Date of the Camp: Postponed to Term 4 (the date is subjective to the restrictions outlined by the Victorian government and school operations guide)

Departure Time by bus: 8:15am with your child must be at school by 7:45am to ensure a timely departure. We will be meeting in the school hall. An outline of the procedures for the morning of the camp are outlined in the attachment. Please ensure you and your child follow for a swift departure.

Arrival Time back at school: Approximately 4:00pm (Dependent on traffic).

COVID Safe requirements:

Our school is working alongside all venues to ensure our students and staff have a COVID safe experience. We will be providing information to meet the COVID Safe requirements directed by the Government. Our school is working with our tour operator with keeping our students within a bubble and separate from members of the public in shared facilities such as the accommodation and visiting sites. Venue COVID Safe rules and regulations will be followed by our school at all visiting sites.

Under NO circumstances is anyone to come to the Camp experience if they are unwell and present symptoms of being unwell. If your child is unable to attend the camp due to illness, please contact your child's classroom teacher and Mr Karl Camerino.

Accommodation and Meals

Children will be staying at the Bell Tower Inn. They will be accommodated in multi-share rooms with their own ensuite facilities. Details are listed below of the venue and the website can be visited to view the facilities.

Breakfast and dinner are served at the Bell Tower Inn. Lunch will be provided while visiting various different sites in Ballarat. Morning and afternoon teas which will include a piece of fruit, packet of chip or baked treat will be provided by St Simon's.

Dietary Requirements:

To ensure we cater for the dietary needs of your child, please ensure that your child's dietary requirement are updated immediately on their Operoo profile. These can include requirements such as no nuts in food, no gluten, no diary, vegetarian meals only etc.

Be very specific with including as much information as possible in the dietary requirement question.

This information is very important in providing the camp facilitators and St Simon staff with sufficient time to cater for your child's dietary needs! The information is required as soon as possible

On the first day of camp, we require the child to have packed in a small backpack containing a small snack, their lunch, and a filled drink bottle. Please ensure no food products with nuts and sesame seeds are packed for their snack or lunch.

What to Bring:

Ballarat can get quite cold during the day and especially at night. One of our activities includes an evening tour. It is recommended that students pack warm clothing for this camp.

Please download the "What to Bring" document attached to know what is required for your child to bring to the campsite.

Asthma

School Camp Asthma Action Plans are highly recommended to be completed and if your child suffers from Asthma. Students with Asthma are required to fill in School Camp Asthma Action Plan Pre Camp Assessment form which will be handed to your child by your classroom teacher. This needs to be returned before the day of the camp. This documentation is necessary to ensure we have an up-to-date assessment of your child's asthma.

Administration of Medication (IMPORTANT):

This part of the Operoo form needs to be completed only if your child requires medication administered to them whilst away. It is important that this is completed correctly.

For health and safety reasons, only a teacher can administer medication to your child. This includes common medicated items such as tablets, lozenges, creams, liquid capsules and liquid medicines. You are able to alter this section as necessary if your child is needing medication closer to the date of the camp. Please be specific in describing the reasons for the medication, dosage and time of administration as this information is vital for administering all medication to your child.

All medication listed on the eForm needs to be labelled and brought to school preferably before date of departure. This allows the teachers time to sort out the medication and reduces the risk of a late departure on the morning of the camp.

You can add or change any medication details in the eForm as we get closer to the camp date.

Any medication that requires refrigeration or is required by your child the night/morning before camp at home can be brought to school on the day by 7:45am. All last-minute medication can be handed only to Mr Karl Camerino via the servery window adjacent to the hall entry.

We assure you that your child’s safety and wellbeing will be at all times of the utmost importance to teachers and staff attending. The ultimate aim is for every student and staff member to enjoy the camp experience and have great fun, even if it is the first time for your child!
