Last weekend was a gloriously sunny one and what a wonderful change it was.

On Friday night after steak and chips, everyone headed off to Eaton for some shopping before returning to spend time around the fire pit.

On Saturday morning, many students underwent a chainsaw course onsite. All students reported that it was a very relevant and worthwhile course, so well done.

The remaining students went down to Gravity for a couple of hours of bouncing around and having fun.

Students spent Saturday afternoon enjoying the sunshine and kicking the footy around.

Some students put “Just Dance” on the big screen and spent the remainder of the weekend perfecting their dance moves. I am sure we will see many of them at the Ball.

Saturday night was a movie on the big screen and time spent around the fire again.

Weekly Activities

Monday saw the sewing classes continue with Sally, with lots of buy-in from the students and some great projects created.

Around 16 students signed out to go to the mountain bike track, where they have been very busy constructing the track and then enjoying riding it. This has been a significant undertaking driven by some very passionate students who have shown great dedication and expended lots of energy working on their common goal.

Netball was a tough contest but a great game, but unfortunately our girls fell just short.

Student Behaviour

Yesterday I had reason to speak with the students about winding up our new staff, telling them they are someone else is not helpful, switching seats and then claiming they haven’t. This may seem minor, but less than helpful to new staff trying to get to know the students.

We also had two students leave the dining room on Wednesday night and return to their dorms without informing any of the five staff on duty. Both boys claimed they were so unwell they couldn’t notify staff. This is unacceptable and caused staff some angst when they realised they were not where they said they would be.

Banned Items

This is a further reminder that students and parents need to be aware of items on the banned list for the College. One item that regularly appears onsite are laser pointers. These are prohibited items, not only on-site but in WA. They can and do result in Police charges as they are very dangerous when pointed into the eyes of unsuspecting drivers, pilots etc. Please work with us on this matter, as I am not allowing them to be returned to the student. I ask that the items are not to be brought to the College.

Staff Update

This week we see Ms Sparks commence her well-deserved long service leave for the remainder of the term. No doubt she will enjoy some downtime and sunshine and I'm sure she will have a lovely time and return very refreshed.
