Year 9

Djeembana Program

Our student CEOs participating in the ‘Changemakers Challenge’

The Djeembana Year 9 program builds knowledge and understanding through real world problem solving, utilising and extending skills learnt in core subjects. It focuses on contemporary issues and includes ideas and themes such as global citizenship, ethics, entrepreneurship and respectful relationships. Students have been immersed in these ideas, being exposed to diverse perspectives and information from a wide range of sources including incursions, expert lectures and working with peers and teaching staff.

Students in classes 9G & 9H are participating in the Djeembana Program in Term 1.

This term students have created a brief podcast about racism, reflected on Mental Health, participated in a Self Defence workshop and have practised other important life skills such as budgeting and planning for the future.

Last Thursday, students spent the day working collaboratively with organisation 'Gen Z', exploring the concept of social enterprise and how businesses can make a difference. Students participated in the ‘Changemakers Challenge’, an educational and exciting competition where students worked in teams to identify a social problem and invented ways to address the problem using a business model.

Our student CEOs worked brilliantly with their teams to put together an inspiring product presentation. Congratulations to the team of 'Donut Donors' who won the team prize, and to Crystal Ivanoska who won a Certificate of Excellence for her fantastic work on the day.
