School Council meeting report 21 June 2021

School Council met on Monday 21st June 2021 and discussed the following items:

AGM (Annual General Meeting) was held. MPWPS Leadership Team and Learning Specialists spoke to the data that was presented and outlined the work that is being undertaken as a result of the Annual Report for 2020. The report focuses on student outcomes, engagement, achievement and wellbeing, as well as the financial management of the school.

The School Council considered the impact that Remote Learning has had on student outcomes and support the strategies that are being implemented to progress towards learning targets. The School Council would like to acknowledge the excellent work of MPWPS leadership team, teaching and support staff in supporting student learning needs and improving student outcomes.

Our wonderful JSC (Junior School Council) reported that they have been involved in the current Dress Code Review.

It was also reported by JSC that students were looking forward to MPWPS Pyjama Day, and that they hope to plan more days like this in the future.

The Education Sub Committee presented the summary of findings from the Dress Code Review Working Party. The School Council would like to thank the Working Party and JSC for their involvement.

There is still more work to be done on the Dress Code Review before a decision can be made. After discussion with School Council, the committee has recommended that:

  • A clearer policy be developed and accessible.
  • Our current uniform and supplier be reviewed, regardless of whether or not school uniform is compulsory.

The Resources Sub Committee reported on the tabled Management and Finance Reports. School Council also discussed voluntary curriculum contributions at MPWPS and how collection rates can be improved.

The Community Engagement Sub Committee is currently exploring ways for families of the MPWPS community to reconnect. Due to the 2020/2021 pandemic families have had little opportunity to connect as they would’ve in the past. A Community Connecting Calendar is being prepared for Term 3, assuming that we can have some form of onsite presence.

The Environment Sub Committee is currently organising a Working Bee for August 1st 2021. Please put this in your calendars! The plan is to continue to develop Jack’s Paddock as a play space for the children. We do need help with loosening compacted soil prior to the day, so if  you are able to assist, please let us know.

The School Council also acknowledged the efforts of the leadership team, teaching and support staff in moving so quickly and successfully to Remote Learning, as well as the parent community and students for adapting to the move so well.

The next School Council meeting is scheduled for Monday 23rd August 2021.
