Term 3 Week 9

Home Learning

English

Reading

This week in Reading we will be focusing on the poem 'The Porcupine' written by Roald Dahl which features in his book 'Dirty Beasts'. Students will choose an activity to complete each day from a task choice board. These activities focus on the skills we have been practising this term as well as  drawing on the student's creativity.

Writing

The students have been exploring the purpose and nature of the writing form 'Poetry'. They focused on understanding how word choice is key to expressing thoughts, emotions and entertaining the reader. This week they will learn about Diamante poems. Following the stages of the writing process they will develop ideas through to publishing their own written work in a Diamante poem.

Word Study

This week we introduced the students to the 'fszl' gang. The letters f, s, z & l will be doubled if they come after a single vowel and at the end of a one syllable word. This week we will continue to explore words that follow this 'rule'.

Mathematics

Number and Algebra

This week the students will be revisiting concepts taught this term by playing a variety of card games.

Measurement and Geometry.

This week students will investigate angles. They will classify angles according to their degrees and label angles using this knowledge. They will look for real world examples and how the use of angles is a key feature in different art forms including architectural design.

Unit of Inquiry

This week the student will do a personal inquiry into 'Who is an artist?'. They will research an artist and learn how they show creativity through their artform. Through their inquiry students will identify the skills the artists have and the PYP learner profile attributes and attitudes which they use.

Wellbeing

This week the students are being invited to create a family wellbeing calendar for the school holidays.  They are being encouraged to think about all the Wellbeing challenges they have participated in during the remote learning period to come up with an activity for each day of the school holidays.  The students can be creative with their ideas and the presentation of their calendar.
