Principal's Report

Greetings Students, Families and the Community of MPWPS,

Welcome to Week 8, another important week of learning, monitoring and connecting to all things MPWPS.  Over the last days I have been very fortunate to have the chance to interact with students on a deep and really meaningful way as we prepare to transition to new schools, new classes and new experiences.  The students and families of MPW are truly amazing and each day I feel grateful to be leading the school.

Transitions

In relation to Year 6-7 transition the secondary colleges will be offering some sort of transition and so it is best to be in contact if you haven’t received information around this activity. Here at school we are continuing to offer some important learning around essential skills and knowledge to ensure a positive and confident transition to secondary school.  The transition sessions for students and parents hosted by Amanda Lecaude commenced today and focus on developing organisational information necessary to be able to confidently step across to the next step.  The sessions focus on organisational and study skills and time management to support successful transition and  confidence. There will be an opportunity for the year 6 children to ask and have answered any pressing questions. Parents of Year 6 students are encouraged to be part of the evening virtual session (Tonight Nov 23rd) that will be hosted by Amanda.   Please refer to the flier that is attached to register.

Parent Representative System for MPWPS

Again, this important organisational structure has been a bit disjointed for our Parent Reps, but many have managed to stay in contact with class teams and families even in the most informal way.  Each year we call for interested parents to fulfil this role. We have attached the Handbook for this role, so as to provide parents with guidance and reassurance to take on the role. This year towards the end of November we will be calling for interested parents to nominate for this role.  You will nominate for the year level of your child and we will match you to the class.  Communication in this way is very important so please think about becoming or re-nominating for this role.

The Parent Rep role feeds into the Community Engagement Sub-committee of School Council.

Year 6 Graduation

As mentioned previously the year 6 team are working on the organisational arrangements for the Year 6 evening.  This is one of the best graduations I have been involved with!

The date for the Graduation is DECEMBER 14 so put this in your diary and look for important communication from the team via COMPASS.

Purifier Donation Opportunity

Many of our families have approached me to offer to assist in the payment of air purifiers for the classrooms and learning areas across the school.  As you may know we have had an independent audit carried out with some recommendations to improve the air circulation in the classrooms.  This includes a deep clean of the existing air conditioners and the recommendation of an LED panel to purify the air circulation.   Both recommendations- free standing air purifiers and LED panels have been adopted.  Should you feel that you may want to donate to this cost the link to the form is included below.

We will be posting this opportunity onto COMPASS as well.

Book Packs 2022

We are again offering a Book-pack system for the purchase of important stationary for the new school year.  The book packs have been compiled by the teaching staff and represent the ‘tools’ that are deemed important for students to have as part of their learning. The government provider COS is the supplier, so the value is guaranteed. The other benefits families are:

  • Payment through the provider
  • No pick-up or deliver as the packs go straight to the class and are ready for day
  • No fuss for the busy time of the year.

The book pack lists will be circulated this week in hard copy form and via Compass.

Department of Education Parent Survey

We have received the preliminary survey results and on the General Satisfaction scale our school is at 79%, school support was at 83%; promoting positive behaviour 89% and the question Teachers at this school model positive behaviour the score was 90%.  The areas for further improvement include student voice and agency 70%; student motivation and support 64%. We invited over 90 families to participate and only 40 took up the invitation.  This makes the sample smallish. However, there are some things that will provide guidance for the Annual Implementation Plan 2022.

Well, that’s about it from me. Until we meet in person which I hope will be soon.

Regards

Kerri Simpson
