Jump Rope for Heart Kicks off this Term!

Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for over 36 years. It’s a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $104 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.

You do not have to fundraise if you do not wish, however, all students in Year 1-10 will still be participating. Students will be skipping throughout the term in PE lessons/during lunch breaks and some morning fitness sessions. During this time, you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

Brilliant Brains

We began this term with the theme of Nursery Rhymes. Singing and reciting nursery rhymes is an important pre-reading activity so we had Mums and kids saying rhymes throughout our workshop. There was Mary Mary Quite Contrary’s garden to make and Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars to decorate with glitter. We made Humpty Dumpty and dabbed paint on a sheep outline to make Baa Baa Black Sheep. For some Maths activities, we counted spider's legs and made an Eensy Weensy spider go up and down a water spout. We also had a Humpty puzzle to put back together with band-aids and counted feathers onto the Five Little Ducks. So many Nursery Rhymes! Our activities continued with indoor games as it was raining!! This week our Brilliant Brains workshop featured activities related to the farm. The students were able to explore different grains, their textures, and how they look in the paddock. They opened pods to discover the seeds inside and rubbed out a head of wheat. Another activity enjoyed by the children was making a farm with lots of different animals and machines. The students painted a pig using golf ball rolling and made a fluffy sheep with shaving cream. This was lots of fun, smooshing it through fingers and on the page!! We also made a farm fence by counting pop sticks to 10. Of course, food is always popular so we made pikelets using ingredients we would find on a farm - milk, eggs, and flour from wheat. After reading the book "Where is the Green Sheep", we went for a walk around the school looking for pictures of sheep that depicted opposites. We took this opportunity to visit different areas of the school and meet some of the people in our school. Along the way, we found another sheep - the school CARE sheep, Buddy.
