A RICH STIMULUS FOR WRITING

In Year 3/4 students have been busy exploring a range of fictional worlds through film, literature and art. They have used their imaginations to create a painting of another world. They then used this to generate ideas to use in their own story writing.

“Painting sparks creativity and helps me imagine things. It helps me picture what the writing might be.” Evie H (Year 4)

“Films and books help our imagination grow. Sometimes they give us an ‘out of this world’ idea! Or it helps us think out of the box.” Tilly (Year 4)

“I can look at other worlds in films and stories and make connections to my own writing. I have so many cool writing ideas!” Alexis (Year 4)

“It really helped me get more ideas for lots of different pieces of writing instead of just one.” Sebastian (Year 4)

WRITING ABOUT A SHARED EXPERIENCE

Our Foundation students have been exploring all things related to the Zoo after their visit to Werribee Zoo recently. This week they read ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell and used this to generate a range of different types of writing. Well done to our Foundation students who are learning to use letter-sound knowledge to attempt to write unknown words.

 EXPLORING PERSUASIVE TEXTS

The Year 6 students have been examining, analysing and creating persuasive texts. This week they formed small groups and debated a range of different topics orally. They enjoyed the process and experimenting with persuasive strategies. This is what the students had to say about it…

“I can make my argument more persuasive if I take time to do some research and add facts.” Milly

“I can make my texts more persuasive by using persuasive language and choosing words and phrases carefully.” Leo

“I can be persuasive by comparing the topic to something else.” Lily

“I can make my text more persuasive by explaining my reasons and including examples.” Belle
