OSHClub

What’s been happening at OSHC?

Our theme this term is all about exploring our identity as we learn to successfully negotiate play through a range of creative experiences that foster curiosity and imagination. Over the past fortnight we have explored this theme throughout our brand-new after school clubs.

Busy Bees Crafting Club

Building our connection with the local environment, the children explored the gardens in search of the first signs of autumn! We discussed how our environment changes throughout the year. Sofia noticed “there are lots of rainbow leaves.” Lucia also noticed “that the leaves are changing because it’s Autumn!” Together, the children enjoyed the sunset as they made some beautiful autumn pictures from our collection of colourful leaves.

Performing Arts Club

During performing arts club, the children developed their creativity and communication skills as they worked collaboratively to make an amazing show called ‘Jaws: St James Edition’. Great work everyone!

OSHClub Mini Bake-Off Club

It was fabulous to watch the senior children lead the juniors through our baking experience. Together they negotiated social roles to successfully bake their own choc-banana muffins! Iris said, “These muffins are better than banana bread!” At the end of the term, we will have a kids bake off to show off all the cool baking tricks we’ve learned!

“Looks like fun!”- Clare (parent)

Chill out Fridays

Each Friday, we take the time to reflect upon our week and provide the opportunity for children to relax within a calm environment. As a special Friday treat, we developed our communication skills as we followed the steps of the recipe to make our own vegan pancakes. Later, the children participated in some mindfulness colouring to some relaxing music.

Spotlight on the Community: National Families Week

As part of our commitment to families within our community, Spotlight on the Community will be a platform for staff within the program can share relevant resources to support parents with parenting and wellbeing.

This week we are sharing information about National Families Week, 15th-21st of May, 2022. National Families Week is an annual celebration to recognise the importance of family within the life and development of each child. Coinciding with the UN International Day of Families (15th of May), National Families Week aims to raise awareness for the importance of family in community wellbeing.

How can you get involved?

You might like to spend some extra time with family this week! Perhaps you could go on a bike ride, have a family games night or cook a meal together. At OSHClub this week, the children will be writing cards to special people in their family.

We love feedback!

As part of our commitment to ongoing quality improvement within the program, we are seeking feedback from families and communities!

This week we are focusing on Quality Area 2 of the National Quality Standard: Children’s Health and Safety.

What are we working on?

A meaningful approach to healthy eating is promoted within our weekly menus and aligns with relevant governing guidelines (NQS 2.1.3).

Question:

What would you like to see the service include in our menus? (NQS 2.1.3).

In relation to your child’s dietary needs, what’s important to you? (NQS 2.1.3).

We would love your feedback and insight. Please follow the link to provide us with some feedback in this area!

 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Please note, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, parents, families and caregivers must check in with the QR code located at our entrance before entering the building. When you have arrived with your child for pick up or drop off, please ensure you are wearing a mask
