Principal's Report

Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a fantastic break. I certainly did and feel refreshed and ready for Term 3! I had a wonderful time getting some warmer weather with my family in Bali- I hope you were able to enjoy some time as a family also.

This Term promises to be another exciting but busy one with Camps, Athletics Days, Shadow puppet incursion, camps, Book Fun Day, VSMF, swimming, Author visit and School Disco all on the Calendar on top of exciting learning opportunities in every classroom.

Running Track Update

As you would be aware from previous newsletters we are really working hard to upgrade the schools running track. I will regularly update the community on the progress and we are so excited and lucky to have the support of School Council and PFA and the most amazing facilities already around our school and this would definitely be a great addition for all students.

The initial stages of applications with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) have been completed and I look forward to making further announcements to the school community as the project progresses.

A huge thank you to the many families that recently made donations to the school building fund to go towards this project and we look forward to sharing the funding journey with all in the BPS.

Welcome Gemma Kahrimanis

Hello! My name is Gemma Kahrimanis and I am so excited to be taking over Wendy Bennett’s Grade 1/2 class for the rest of the year. I have been working at BPS as a Casual Relief Teacher for 6 months and completed my final University placement here which has given me the opportunity to get to know the wonderful BPS community. In my spare time I enjoy going to the beach and trying out new cafes with friends and family. I look forward to meeting many of you this year!

Carly

Please make sure that you read Carly's wellbeing page for a really important message. We will communicate more from the school in the coming weeks.

Disco Time!

Earlier this week you would have seen an event come up on COMPASS for the school disco.  Thank you to the families who have already given consent and paid for this. This letter is to clarify that the school disco day is ALSO a Free Dress Day so students will come to school in their disco gear and the disco will happen throughout the day – there may be a number of other activities happening throughout the day.  The Grade 56 disco will happen directly after school.

The theme is disco sporty because every single cent we raise from this school disco will contribute directly to the building of our school running track!  There will be a number of school events throughout the year targeted towards this really worthy cause and this is one of them!

The Resilience Project

This next presentation from The Resilience Project is all about Empathy and Kindness. Empathy is our ability to put ourselves in the shoes of others to feel and see what they do. We practice this through being kind and compassionate towards other people.

Brain imaging data shows that being kind to others registers in the brain as more like eating chocolate than like fulfilling an obligation to do what’s right (e.g., eating brussel sprouts)!

Research shows that practicing empathy, such as performing acts of kindness, taps into our brain’s ‘mirror neurons’, builds compassion and our behaviour becomes more social and community-based.

In this presentation, Hugh shares how being kind and putting yourself in someone else’s shoes can make you feel good as well as having a positive effect on others. He shares some practical activities you could do as a family.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD please contact the school.
