Footy Cupcake Competition

To coincide with the football finals and the last week of term 3, we will be holding a Football cupcake competition. Baking for the competition begins Monday 13th of September

Decorate your cupcakes in your favourite footy team colours. Please post or send a photo of your cupcakes to your teacher by 3:00pm Tuesday 14th September. Teachers will send photos to the cooking teacher who will collect and send them through to Mr Pukarinen and Mr Bacon for judging. Winners to be announced at our assembly. The three most creative designs will win a cooking prize. Every student that enters the competition will have their cupcakes featured in the next school newsletter.

Skills to focus on:

  • Hygiene: following our set routine of washing hands, selecting and putting on apron.
  • Creaming butter and sugar until lighter texture, mixing well after each egg added. Add flour and milk alternately, one third at a time.
  • Sifting icing first then adding a small amount of water to make the icing
  • Safety gloves to remove trays from the oven
  • Icing can be tinted in your footy colours.

 Ingredients                                                                            Equipment   

200 g butter (softened)                                               patty pans, trays

1 1/2 cup castor sugar                                   mixing bowl, electric beater     

2 eggs                                                              sifter, measuring cups

1 tablespoon vanilla essence                                                                               

3 cups self-raising flour (sifted)

1 ½ cups milk                                                                                                                                                                                          

What to do: 

Instructions   

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celscuis or 160 fan-forced. Line 2 x 12 cup cupcake tins with patty pans and set aside.
  2. Using an electric mixer, beat the butter until pale. Add the sugar and beat until mixture is creamy. 
  3. With the mixer still running, add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add eggs the vanilla and mix until well combined.
  4. Sift flour.  Add the flour and milk alternately, a little at a time, mixing until well combined. 
  5. Spoon the mixture into the patty cases and bake for 18 – 20 minutes, until cooked and golden brown. Cool in pans for 2 minutes then lift onto cake cooler. Decorate icing by tinting icing in your team colours. You can add extra decoration.
