I wish everyone in our College community an enjoyable Easter break. Please stay safe, particularly on the roads. Our Year 12 students took part in the RAC bestreetsmart presentation in Perth this week in which they learned about the impacts of road crashes and trauma on individuals, families and the wider community. Hopefully they will make wise decisions when they are in control of or a passenger in a vehicle.

Road Safety

From Road Safety Commission statistics;

In 2019, 676 people were killed or seriously injured in regional WA.
64% were male, 23% were aged 20-29 years.
Speed was a factor in 24% of the incidents, seatbelts were not worn in 11% of the incidents, blood alcohol content was over 0.05 in 4% of the incidents, fatigue was suspected to be a factor in 22% of the incidents.
25% of the incidents were the result of single vehicle run off road or rollover.
36% of the incidents were the result of hitting an object (not animal).

ANZAC Remembrance

As a College, we will conduct a short ANZAC Ceremony on Friday morning and there will be an opportunity for students to represent the College at the Harvey ANZAC Service.

Remember, Term 2 will commence on Tuesday the 20th April with Boarding students returning from 3.30pm on Monday 19th April.

Given the proximity of the ANZAC long weekend to the holidays, the Residence will remain open for those students who need to remain on site.

Student Dinner

Last night the majority of our students attended our annual Student Dinner in the gymnasium. It was great to see all our students dressed up, mingling with each other over mocktails and canapés before heading inside for a beautiful Hawaiian dinner and dessert. The gymnasium was decorated in a colourful Hawaiian theme, with staff serving students dinner and drinks. The night finished off with a disco.

Thanks to the talented Kitchen staff for creating and serving such a beautiful menu and to all the staff who volunteered their time to make this a memorable night for the students. Photos can be found on Facebook.

The guest speaker for the night, Joel Whitwell, spoke to students about his life experiences and challenges whilst living with cranio-facial deficiency. Joel described how having this deficiency has not prevented him achieving his dream of travel and has allowed him strength, empathy and resilience.

Easter Raffle

We had a profitable Easter raffle this year with students raising $720 which will go towards the College Ball. The below winners definitely don't need buy any chocolates for the weekend, especially Tom Wilson.
