Room 9 have loved being back in the classroom – spending time with their friends and learning all about our new topics. We have been learning to tell the time and all about fractions in Numeracy – all of the students agree that they would rather have a WHOLE chocolate bar! In Literacy, students have been reading ‘The Twits’ and have made their own ‘wiggly worm’ recipe with lots of disgusting ingredients! During Term 4, Room 9 students have enjoyed celebrating special events such as Halloween, NAIDOC week, Reading week and Diwali Festival and are looking forward to our upcoming Christmas activities!

The JSA Positive Behaviour Support approach!

Recently, students have been enjoying the brilliant sunshine and our beautiful playground together with friends.  I am so impressed with the way our students quickly learn expected behaviours using the JSA Positive Behaviours Support (PBS) approach. The logic behind PBS is simple, encourage and reward a preferred behaviour. For example, “I like the way you are wearing your sunhat today, you can have a PBS ticket” or ‘Look, your friends are wearing their sunhats outside, you can wear your hat too’. This approach can be used to promote a range of healthy and safe lifestyle choices such as eating healthy food, drinking water rather than sugary drinks, holding hands near traffic, wearing a bike helmet and more! All you need is patience and persistence, good role models, motivating rewards and a positive and encouraging approach. Always worth a try!

Student Support Group Meetings are happening at the moment!

A special thankyou to families for making the time to meet with your child’s teacher. As we approach the end of 2020, Student Support Group Meetings provide an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to celebrate your child’s achievements throughout the year, to reflect on a very eventful year and provide us with an opportunity to thank you for the support you have provided to your child under such difficult circumstances created by Remote and Flexible Learning.
