Principal's Report
Dear families and friends of MPW,
Congratulations to students for their efforts and teamwork at District Swimming on Monday 27th. They returned with the 2023 District Swimming Champions shield. There will be a swimming report and presentation of the shield at Monday’s assembly.
Thank you to those parents and staff who have indicated their interest in being part of School Council. We are hoping to finalise the process soon. Thank you again to those councillors who have come to the end of their terms, and not re-nominating, for their contributions and participation.
Parent Information Booklet
We have been working on updating our Parent Information Booklet for the new year to reflect the current climate and school offerings in 2023. The document is attached for your reference and includes information regarding opportunities, processes and reminders about operational aspects of the school. It is worth looking over when you have time.
Classroom Helpers
Now the year is underway, we would like to start inviting parents who would like to become classroom helpers to have the opportunity to volunteer their support. It is important to note that classroom helpers need to have a current Working with Children’s Check and have read the induction document attached to be aware of the expectations of supporting in the classroom, particularly around privacy. We will be holding a face-to-face session for parents on Monday 6th March after assembly (approx. 9.30am) in the Performance Space.
Also attached is the Classroom Helpers form for you to complete indicating your availability.
We hope this opportunity provides a chance for parents to build stronger partnerships with the school.
Basket Tea
It was a warm day last Friday for the Basket tea. It was great to get to speak with several parents early in the night about their positive start to the school year. Thank you to our 2023 Parent Reps for accommodating the fashionable yellow vest to help identify themselves to the rest of the parents. The Parent Reps play an important part in communication for parents of your child’s classroom, so we hope you had the chance to meet them in person.
It was however disappointing to return on Monday morning to find the gym in a significant state of mess. The gym was open for access to the toilets after staff left, while the cleaners finished their work to then lock up the facilities. We spoke to the cleaners and some parents who were at the Basket Tea, who indicated that when students who were in the gym were asked to leave, they did not. As a school community we have high expectations of the behaviour of our students and hope that they are considerate and respectful. Unfortunately, those who were involved have demonstrated disrespect for the school’s facilities and resources that belong to Camp Australia.
We look forward to our next community event which is the Movie Night on March 24th where we hope we are able to see behaviour consistent with our community expectation that is respectful towards the school grounds and other community members. We want to ensure that our social events and activities are positive experiences for all.
NAPLAN
The national testing for our year 3 and 5 students is sneaking up soon. There is more specific information in the Education Section of the newsletter regarding NAPLAN and our schedule. Attached is some additional information regarding NAPLAN for those families in years 3 and 5.
Finally, a reminder that our Parent Teacher Interviews are on this week. If you have missed booking your time on Compass, please contact your child’s teacher directly to organise a time with them.
The interview is a chance to share information about your child with their teacher and to hear how they have started the year.
Regards,
Jarrod Sutton
