NARANGA’S RESOURCE SMART JOURNEY SO FAR

Naranga School has been a Resource Smart school since 2012. We have a whole school approach to Sustainability. We use lots of explicit teaching in our daily sustainability practices. Students are familiar with sustainability language and positive practices are promoted through visuals, hands on activities, student voice and the Sustainability Star Award each week at school assemblies. Students are involved in regular recycling, energy saving and kitchen garden activities.

Over 11 years, we’ve reduced our carbon emissions by 392,931 kilograms of co2 that’s equal to removing a petrol powered car off the road for 3,143 months.

Over 11 years, we’ve reduced our power use by 377,213 KWh, that’s equal to turning off 1,161 Televisions for one year.

Over 12 years, we’ve reduced our water use by 767 litres, that’s equal to 23 shipping containers.

Recent statistics from Sustainability Victoria

Sometimes we become too busy practicing our daily actions that we don’t know if we are achieving much. When we reflect on the bigger picture, our school is making lots of savings and that’s good for us and the environment.
