Therapy

Happy Occupational Therapy week!!

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational Therapists (OTs) help children to do everything they need to do and everything they want to do.

Here at school, students need to eat, go the toilet, participate in writing and maths.

Students may want to play and hang out with their friends.

If a student finds any of these things challenging, OT may be able to help.

OT at Naranga

The OT at Naranga is Sinead. Sinead works with students and teachers across the school. Sinead runs programs in the classroom, in the yard and with parents/families.

Sinead is helping students to build their fine motor skills in the classroom. This includes building fine motor control and strength to engage in handwriting and self-care tasks.

Sinead is helping to build play skills in the yard. This includes turn taking, sharing, communicating with others and making up stories in pretend play.

Sinead is helping students to learn how their body feels and how this is linked to emotions. This is called interoception. Students across Naranga School will be learning about interoception from the therapy team.
