Reflection

Today is the second day of Lent. In some ways, Lent is the most famous of all church seasons. We say it lasts for forty days, even though that's not exact, because the number forty appears often in the Bible.

The Hebrew people lived in the desert for forty years on their way from slavery in Egypt to the freedom of the Promised Land. That seemed very long nut later on they understood that they needed all that time to learn to hear God's word and to live as God commanded.

In the story of Noah and the ark, rain fell for forty days and nights before the rainbow appeared.

Jesus spent forty days and nights fasting and praying in the desert to prepare for his mission.

Lent is a serious time when the Church prepares to celebrate the great Easter mystery. We practise prayer and penance in order to understand God's word more clearly and to live it more generously. We take time with our friends and family to think about how well we are living out God's law of love and the promises of our baptism.

Prayer

Merciful God,

as your loving children,

we are eager to do what is right.

Send your Holy Spirit to live with us

and fill us with your light.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Lenten Message From Bishop Kennedy

I have been asked by Bishop Kennedy to pass his Lenten Message letter on to all of our school community members. The letter is included below:

Project Compassion

The beginning of Lent also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice. We are encouraged to put our compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each student received yesterday a Project Compassion box for their donations. Let’s Go Further, Together!

First Reconciliation

A note was sent home to the families of all eligible First Reconciliation candidates in Years 2 and 3 early earlier week. A big thank you goes out to most of the parents who have returned their notes promptly. The preparation program will commence this upcoming Tuesday.  If you have any questions/queries in regards to the Sacrament of First Reconciliation, please feel free to contact Mr Hyatt.

Sacrament Dates for 2022

2022 First Reconciliation Date has been set for our Catholic students in Years 2 and 3 for Friday 1st April 2022.

2022 First Eucharist Date has been set for our Catholic students in Year 3 for Sunday 19th June 2022.
