Principal's Report

Dear Families, Staff, Students, and community members of MPWPS,

Week 6 of Term 2 and we are already past the NAPLAN, the Camping program for our Year 3-6 students and about to embark on two days of Bike Education.  I am really pleased we have been able to secure Ride2School to do the instruction and implement this aspect of learning during the Physical Education time allocation. If you child is unable to ride a bike they can learn on these days. Many a child has learnt to ride a bike during the Bike Ed sessions.

Being able to ride a bike can be a great way to facilitate open air exercise and pleasure.  It is a life skill like learning to swim.  So, on your bike everyone!

Annual Report of School Performance

Each year all government schools are to prepare an Annual Report to the Community.  The report is generated by the Department of Education and outlines the school’s performance in the areas of Student Learning, Student Wellbeing and Engagement, Parent and Staff Opinion survey results and our Financial situation.  The intention is to hold the Annual General Meeting to deliver this report on June 21 from 6-00-6.30pm.  At this stage I think the meeting will be via WebEx and closer to the date I will forward the link.   After the meeting the Annual Report will be uploaded to the school’s website.

Foundation (Prep) Enrolments for 2022

We are now taking enrolments for the 2022 school year.  I have been conducting many tours of the school from prospective parents and carers. If you have a sibling that is ready to join this school in 2022 please come to the General Office to arrange a tour or to collect an enrolment package.  In 2022 we will have some places for students from outside our area.   The process for this is that we will be offering enrolment places after all the known siblings are enrolled, in zone placements and then outside the area by distance.

The Engagement Guidelines for our school

The Curriculum Action Team-Engagement and Wellbeing are working on putting this mandated document together. It will outline how we support students, staff, and parents in terms of engagement and wellbeing at school. This is a task as we sort through and formalise what it is we do in this area.  We have many strategies that are documented or in place with little documentation.  Pulling together the treads of this work (past and present) is an important task. The document will capture what happens here going forward as a reference.

When the document is complete it will be circulated through parent forums and to the staff through our internal structures. Look out for your opportunity to give feedback and or make comment.

Divisional Cross Country coming up

We have some children who are competing in the Divisional Cross Country on June 2nd.  Being able to give your best in any situation is the best mindset.  Good luck, run to your best and enjoy the opportunity.

Uniform Survey

Thankyou to those who have taken the time to fill in the survey and offer comment.  I think it is the best survey response we have ever had!  The survey is on Google Forms (can be accessed via Google Forms with this link https://forms.gle/i1KFcAtjesa9p58n7) and has been developed by the Uniform Focus group representative of parents and staff.   The feedback from the survey will be collated by the Focus Group and will be presented to the Education Sub-Committee on June 7.  From this a recommendation will be presented to the School Council.  The decision about Uniform and or Dress Code is made by the School Council.

Well we live in interesting times.  Stay well and safe everyone.  We will be masking up again and so I remind you to maintain social distancing.

Sincerely

Kerri Simpson

Principal
