Cross Country

Cross Country (Fri 6th May)

A small, but enthusiastic group of 9 students representing Craigieburn Secondary College, competed in the Zone Cross Country on Friday 6th May at Woodlands Historic Park.

Junior students completed 2 laps of a 3 km circuit with the Intermediate and Senior students also completing 2 laps covering 5 Km.

We arrived early at the venue and were excited to see kangaroos in a natural environment only 15 km from Craigieburn and adjacent to Melbourne Airport. The team walked over one lap of the course prior to the event. One feature of the course was a long, steady hill that was over 500 metres in length. The daunting prospect was that this hill needed to be completed twice!

The message was to pace yourself especially at the start and try to run an even race. This plan was executed to perfection by Nathan Riscica, in the Senior Boys, who ran within himself during the first lap and gave us a thumbs up at the halfway point. We watched Nathan steadily pass runners as he pounded up the hill in the distance. We eagerly waited for the runners to return down the final straight. To our excitement, Nathan could be seen running with another competitor. In a final sprint, Nathan managed to surge ahead to be the first on the podium.

As each race was run, it was evident that every team member had a different experience. All students from Craigieburn Secondary College gave their best performance but also supported each other. It was also great to witness students from different school respecting each other’s performance.

Mr. Archibald and Mr. Owen would like to acknowledge the following students who did themselves and the school proud:
