Visual Arts 

Lay in the backyard. Look at the clouds. Draw what you see.

Get creative. Paint a rainbow on your window or chalk a rainbow on your driveway to spread a little cheer to those walking by.

Fun Shadow Drawing Art Activity

Keep a Visual Diary. Draw something you do or see each day.

Do a collage/sketch/poster of your favourite character of a book.

Kindergarten - Draw a blue boat, a red apple, a green tree, a yellow sun, a black bear

Draw a picture of you and your best friend doing something you both love.

Make a card for your grandparents or someone special that you haven’t been able to see. Snail mail it as a special surprise for them, as they will be definitely be missing seeing your smiling face.

Create a pattern & colour using alternating colours.

Cooking can be a science lesson (let’s talk about how yeast works), a math lesson (what’s a half cup plus a quarter cup?), or a reading lesson (does this label say “baking soda” or “baking powder”?), an art lesson ( how could we decorate this cake?)—and it provides opportunities for kids to learn about nutrition as well as foods and flavours from around the world.

Family Art Masterpiece - Tape off sections of fence or driveway into pattern using tape. Discuss the shapes, angles, area of the proposed masterpiece. Chalk it in!

MUSIC

Listen to a piece of music of your choice. List all the instruments you can hear. How does that piece of music make you feel? Either write or draw a picture of your response to this piece of music.

Use recycled materials and make a musical instrument of your choice. Challenge yourself to make an instrument with strings. Make sure you decorate it.

Play Musical Games - Get up and get moving, musical chairs, dance.

Make-Your-Own Xylophone. Fill an assortment of glasses or jugs (or both) with varying levels of water. Line them up in order from least to most full. Give your child a mallet (a wooden spoon works well) and have them experiment with the different sounds.

DRAMA

Use recycled materials to create a puppet. Eg  Paper Bag Puppet, Box Puppet

Write & act out a short skit for your puppet.

Put on  a puppet show or performance for your family.

READ AN EASY STORY THAT CAN BE DRAMATIZED. Recreate the story. They can make up the lines or you can reread or tell it as they act it out.

Acting out a song — such as the Alligator song.

Let the kids loose in your wardrobe to put on a fashion parade

Turn the dining table into a cubby. Help the kids create a table tent with sheets, rugs and tablecloths and it will become their own little sanctuary where they can do whatever they please.

Pom Pom Race Track

Set up a race track using tape on your floor, grab a pom pom and straw and you’re ready for a race!

If you have access to internet - GoNoodle (great for when kids need to get up and move their bodies)
