Deputy Principal

Katie Vranken

The last fortnight has continued to see many in our community continue to struggle with illness whether it be covid, flu, colds, gastro or other winter viruses.  It is still very important to ensure that our children are reminded to cough into their elbows, wash and sanitise hands regularly and to stay home if uwell.  Hopefully as winter comes to an end, we will begin to see many of our children and families return to full health.

This week coming, families who have children on NCCD will receive from their classroom teachers an adjustment sheet which identifies how adjustments are provided in the classroom for their children.  This is an important form of evidence as it not only informs parents of the level of adjustment but also keeps you informed of some of the classroom supports that are in place.  If you could please sign the document and return them to school promptly it would be much appreciated.

PSG times for Term 3

This term's PSGs for students funded under NCCD will be held in week 9.

The dates for these will be Wednesday 7th, Thursday 8th, Friday 9th of September. Further information will be sent to families required to attend closer to the date.

Upcoming Review -

We have been busily preparing for our upcoming review on the 25th August.  Some of the recent changes to policies have been published below and are updated on our school website.

This week I would like to share with you the updated policies around the administration of medications, and medical management at St Joseph's.  Many of these forms and policies have been updated and it is important to read them and see if these apply to your child/ren.

It is also important for any forms and documents ot be updated with the latest medical information on Operoo and at the school Office.  Some of these forms include updated Asthma and Anaphylaxis plans.  If your child requires medication to be taken at school, please complete the relevant autority forms.

Medical Management Communication Plan:

This policy applies to any time that a child with a diagnosed medical condition, health care need, complex medical need or requires personalised care and support while being educated and cared for in a MACS school or workplace, including during excursions. It excludes students with allergies or at risk of anaphylaxis – see specific anaphylaxis and allergies policy for requirements for those conditions.  These will be shared in the next newsletter.

St Joseph’s seeks to provide, as far as practicable, a safe and supportive environment for all of its students. The school seeks to facilitate the safe participation of all students in the educational experiences offered by the school. In accord with the Medical Management Policy, where students have been diagnosed with a medical condition and require the administration of medication at school, St Joseph’s requires parents/guardians/carers to provide relevant information to enable it to carry out its duty of care obligations.

Please read the following documents in regards to medical management.
