INQUIRY
Over the last few weeks during Inquiry, our class has been learning about sound. We have been learning about different types of instruments and have heard some traditional music from around the world. We have used different everyday materials to make percussion instruments with bottles, sand, gravel, water, and beads. We had to predict which items would make the loudest sounds and then the quietest sounds.
After we made our percussion instruments we had a go at making a panflute (woodwind instrument). We used cardboard, glue, sticky tape, and straws. Everyone became very creative and made all sorts of creations.
Finally using their experience of making these instruments the students worked on designing and making their own instruments using materials inside the classroom. We are still in the process of finishing but everyone is having such fun creating their own sounds and experimenting with the planning, designing, and building process.
MATHS
All this week we have been sharing and learning about division problems. We have been using hands-on materials to share counters between plates and on Friday we had a super fun lesson where we shared a packet of natural lollies between pairs. We all had to work out the total number of lollies and share them equally between two people. Once we worked out how many lollies we had then we shared them and worked out the division sum. We recorded the formal problem in our books and finally got to eat the lollies. We showed lots of patience in this lesson and some even showed kindness by sharing their lollies with others including their happy teachers.
SPELLING
We have been practicing segmenting in spelling all this week. With practise each day we have become really great at breaking our words into sounds and then putting them back together again. Segmenting words helps us to work out all the sounds in a word and can help us with the trickier parts of words. This week's focus sound was 'ir' , 'ur' and 'er' in words such as: bird, girl, fur and fern.
