Grade 3 students are in for a captivating term filled with a range of enriching learning experiences. Additionally, this term encompasses some key events, so we kindly request you to continue checking Compass for additional dates and information.
Reading
Term 3 presents an opportunity to explore a wide range of texts. We will explore the exciting world of novel studies, reading intriguing narratives that will ignite our imagination and continue to foster a love for reading. Additionally, our structured literacy approach will encompass a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, allowing students to develop essential reading skills while engaging with a variety of genres. This comprehensive approach to reading seeks to empower students to analyse, comprehend, and critically evaluate texts, equipping them with invaluable lifelong skills. Get ready to embark on a transformative reading adventure!
Writing
This term, our writing units revolve around the essential aspects of sentence fluency, conventions, as well as reviewing the organisation trait, as part of the 6+1 Traits of Writing. Students will not only learn how these traits contribute to effective writing but also apply them to improve their own compositions in their choice of genre. This term, we will be focusing on daily spelling practice using effective strategies, guided by decodable texts and activities. Through engaging weekly spelling routines, students will strengthen their understanding of spelling and develop valuable strategies to spell words with greater accuracy. Our goal is to strengthen students' abilities to become more confident and proficient spellers.
Numeracy
In Term 3, students will embark on a diverse numeracy journey, covering key areas such as place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, shape, chance, and time. Each day, they will also engage in valuable reviews of previously learned concepts, ensuring a solid foundation of knowledge. Through this comprehensive approach, students will develop a strong understanding of numeracy principles while reinforcing their existing skills. The daily reviews will serve as an opportunity for students to solidify their learning and build connections between different mathematical concepts.
Homework
Students are encouraged to read for a minimum of 20 minutes 5 times a week and record this in their online reading log through Google Classroom. For Numeracy, they will work on Essential Assessments tasks through completing 2 “My Numeracy” tasks per week. Students are encouraged to continue using Sunset Maths on Essential Assessments as a means of extending their engagement with numeracy homework.
