Aspire Leadership Excursion

Our Aspire Leadership students were given the opportunity to apply their learnings from the program at an excursion to the Tree Adventures High Ropes course in Belgrave on Monday the 29th of July. The excursion gave students the opportunities to put into practice what they had learnt about teamwork, resilience, communication, vision and voice to a practical setting where they all worked together to achieve a common goal. The program, which has been designed by the College, aims to provide current and potential student leaders in Years 8 to 10 the opportunity to learn about leadership skills and how they themselves can practice these. The program consists of ten sessions where students explore what it means to be a leader and develop an understanding of the skills involved. Students will then have the opportunity to apply these skills by leading their own projects that benefit the College community. Well done to all students involved.

Hume Network Student Voice Summit

Craigieburn Secondary College hosted the first Hume Network Student Voice Summit on Wednesday the 7th of August at the Hume Global Learning Centre in Craigieburn. The Summit gave student representatives from a number of local secondary schools the opportunity to come together and share ideas on ways in which to promote and enhance student voice in their schools. Students heard from guest speaker Cr Carly Moore (Major of Hume) about her journey through leadership before undertaking a number of activities that allowed them to share how student voice was used in their own schools. Aryan Kumar, Rabia Ramzan, Ali Seraidar and Ryan Glass represented Craigieburn Secondary College at this event and began working on an action plan that they could use moving forward to promote student voice in our own College. Thank you to all students and staff involved in the day, including all the schools that participated. It was a fantastic opportunity for all students and we look forward to continuing with this initiative moving forward.

EAL Student Voice Workshop

The EAL Student Voice Workshop aims to understand from student's perspectives the barriers students from refugee backgrounds have experienced. The purpose of this project is for Craigieburn SC to seek out the insights of students from refugee backgrounds on the barriers and facilitators to learning and engagement at school. Through this project the College will be able to learn directly from students of refugee backgrounds and position them, through their lived experiences, as experts on ‘what works’ to support them at school. The project will comprise two workshops which each run for approximately 1.5 hours with the same group of participants in both. (Workshop 1: Term 2 & Workshop 2: Term 3).
