Celebrating the Olympics!

It was wonderful having all the children back on-site last week. They all entered the learning spaces with enthusiasm and an eagerness to return to routines.

The students rose to the challenge of creating events for our 'Fun Friday Olympic Day,' quickly putting together engaging activities for students across the school. The students worked collaboratively, demonstrating organisation and leadership to run different activities for students. These activities focused on a variety of skills taught throughout the curriculum including Science, Geography, Dance, Art, Drama, Mathematics and Physical Education.

Synthesising

Synthesising is a process by which readers bring together their background knowledge (prior knowledge) and evolving understanding (new learning) to gain a new perspective and opinion about an issue/subject.

Over the past two weeks within Reading, students have engaged in oral discussions about various topics while practicing and applying the synthesising process. The aim of synthesising is to support students to move to a deeper level of thinking; Meta-cognition- where they are ‘thinking about their thinking’.

Problem-Based Learning (PBL)

The past fortnight of Problem Based Learning has seen the students identify and explore supply chains and departments of companies. Students began by watching a mesmerising video showing how chocolate is made from farm to finished product. Students researched what different departments do in a business of their choice along the production line. Hopefully, students will be coming up with their own business ideas and forming companies of their own in the coming weeks and months in our unit titled "How Can Business Drive Positive Change?"
