Group interviews have started for the year and students can also come around to the Careers Room to book individual interviews.
Year 12 students have been invited to join the Careers Team. I regularly post important notices and reminders in the chat. A range of resources and relevant documents can be found in the files section. Teams posts or chat is also a great way to send me questions and get a quick response.
All domestic students applying for courses at the end of the year will need an Australian Tax File number and all students are required to have a USI (unique student identifier).
Information on the Tax File Numbers, USI’s and the UCAT has been posted in the Compass Newsfeed, on the Library noticeboard and in the Careers Team.
An invitation to join the Careers Team is on Compass.
Work Experience Program Year 10,
June 21-25
The Work Experience Program is an established part of the Sandringham College Careers Education Program. The Work Experience Program provides students with a valuable opportunity to experience a taste of employment in the real-world, preferably in a vocation that is of interest to them. Students have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the workings of an industry, speak to industry professionals, identify alternative jobs within the area and find out about the qualifications necessary to pursue a career in that field. It is also anticipated that the WEP program will assist with future subject selection.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, our normal preparation for the program has been interrupted and we recognise that it may be difficult for some students and families to source short-term employment opportunities with employers this year. There are currently no restrictions placed on work experience by the Department of Education and Training and we encourage all students to actively seek a work experience placement and to participate in the program in 2021.
If a student is unable to undertake work experience due to medical reasons or an inability to source a work placement, then they will be expected to attend school as normal. During the work experience week, we will be running a week of learning consolidation so that students on work experience will not miss out on assessments or the introduction of any new topics under the curriculum.
A letter has been sent home providing more detail on the arrangements for this year. If you have any further questions, please contact the Careers Team.
On the 17th of March, all Year 9 students participated in the Morrisby Career Profiling program and this will be followed up in Term 2 with a 30-minute interview with an independent careers counsellor.
During Term 2, I will be spending time on the Bluff Road Campus to assist students with any careers or subject selection questions they may have.
