Book Week

Last week, our school celebrated Book Week. This was a great opportunity for our students to spend one glorious week celebrating Australian children's authors and illustrators. The theme for 2022 was "Dreaming With Eyes Open" which was inspired across various curriculum areas for the Foundation students throughout the week. The children listened to and responded to many of the 2022 CBCA shortlisted books throughout the week and engaged in various forms of literature.

The Year 5/6 classes put together 3 amazing performances for the Foundation students  based on books from our favourite author, Aaron Blabey. The students enjoyed watching their storytelling come to life and appreciated the creativity they demonstrated when retelling their own prequels and sequels to Piranha's Don't Eat Bananas, Pig the Pug and The Brother's Quibble.

On Friday, the students were very excited to dress up as their favourite book character and participate in the whole school parade. All the students looked amazing and your efforts certainly did not go unnoticed! It was a wonderful week for the students to really have fun and find great enjoyment whilst engaging in literature.

Fire Fighters Visit

Local Fire Fighters returned to our school last week to complete their incursion about fire safety with the Foundation students. The friendly Fire Fighters spoke to the children about Good vs Bad fires and how to facilitate Good Fire use. Some ideas shared included storing matches out of child reach, covering open flame fires, tying up long hair in presence of a flame and having an adult present at all times whilst there is a fire.

Firefighters reinforced the importance of regular smoke alarm checks. They explained that when we are asleep, our ability to smell is also 'asleep' and that is why it is extremely important our smoke alarms are on and are working at all times. They recommend changing the batteries in the smoke alarm once every 6 months. Daylight savings is a timely reminder for us to make these checks.

Firefighters explained the importance of having a fire plan. If you have not already done so, please have a chat with your child and the whole family about a safe meeting place in case there is an emergency at your house.

Religion

In Religion, we have been exploring the concept of family, different community groups and what it means to belong. The students have been introduced to the members of Jesus’ family and the role each member plays. By listening to these stories from the New Testament, students have compared and identified the role they play in their own families and the different ways family members contribute to a safe and loving home. The students have also been introduced to the concept of 'kinship' in Indigenous culture, relating to how people help and care for one another, relate to each other and how and why families are together. Students have expressed their own personal ideas of kinship relating to their own families, including being part of the family of God through storytelling and art pieces.

Father's Day Celebrations

On Friday 2nd September, we would like to invite our Father’s/Special person for a celebration of Father's Day.  We will begin with a BYO picnic from 2pm along with an Assembly. Foundation families will picnic in front of the Junior Playground on the Basketball courts. Please meet your child at this space if you are able to join us.

At 2:45pm, we will disperse around the school yard to participate in activities that include sport, board/open air games, construction, lego building and much more.
