More Support For Shepparton Students And Families

November 7th 2019

Designs for a new early learning centre in Mooroopna have been unveiled as the Andrews Labor Government also made a series of other announcements to help families and students in Shepparton get the first-rate education and facilities they deserve.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Shepparton’s McGuire College to launch the designs of the new Mooroopna Integrated Early Learning Centre, which will offer three and four-year-old kindergarten as well as long day care services. Construction will get underway in early 2020.

The Learning Centre will also serve as a hub for the local community by providing a range of maternal and child health services where professionals work together to deliver education, care, health and support services to children and their families, thanks to a new partnership with the Colman Foundation. The Colman Foundation will invest in staff and support programs to implement the ‘Our Place’ model under the partnership with the Victorian Government that will bring together family services and first-rate facilities.

During the visit, Greater Shepparton Secondary College was announced as the official name for the new secondary school. Along with the new name, the school’s new uniform, logo and values were unveiled this morning showcasing a teal, charcoal, orange and white palette to staff, students and community members. The uniform was developed by a committee of students and parents. Students and parents also helped develop the school values:

  • Aspiration
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Responsibility

Mr Merlino also announced a series of resources to assist families and students of the new school including:

  • All Year 7 students will receive a free stationery pack to assist with their first year of secondary education.
  • All students will have access to the School Breakfast Clubs Program – which includes free and healthy breakfasts and school holiday supplies to students who need them.
  • In 2020, all Year 11 and 12 students will be given free access to additional online resources and support to help them with their studies. This includes interactive online videos and exam simulations for VCE to help students with class work, assessment prep, exam revision and homework.
