Student Achievements

Culinary Excellence

Killara High School wishes to extend our congratulations to Year 9 student James McAulay who has been attending the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Hospitality school, completing an online course. He is the youngest student to ever be accepted into the course, which sets him up well for his potential future career as a chef. James is technically not old enough to be sitting the formal examinations yet, though he plans to do so once he turns 15 at the end of the year. His dedication to the pursuit of culinary and academic excellence in this extracurricular domain is clear.

James says that he became involved in the course in the first week of the school holidays after his mother found out about it and shared some information with him. “This is a new course, designed for people in Covid lockdown”, James says. “I signed up and got access to a scholarship and I found out a few days ago that I am one of the youngest people ever to do the course in gastronomy at a culinary university”. In the course, James studies four topics in four terms: ‘Hospitality Experience’, ‘Food and Wine Philosophy’, ‘Tourism Experience’ and ‘The fundamentals of Gastronomic Practice’. James  is currently participating in lectures after school, “every Tuesday and Thursday, as well as academic skills class on Mondays” and he is doing very well.

A warm congratulation to James from our school community.
