News from Around the School

Missing School Books

We have been doing an audit of take-home books and discovered that we have over 300 books missing. We understand that over recent years we have been in and out of school. So we would greatly appreciate if you could hunt around to see if you have any QoP books at home and kindly return them to the classroom teacher or office. An example of a back cover is shown below.

The Office Staff have fun too!

Each time we have fun activities at QOP the Admin Team try to always get involved too. Here are some photos of the Office Team supporting St Patrick's Day.

Gardening Club Update

The gardening club has been very busy in term one with our many eager and helpful members. We are currently watching our garden grow a great range of produce:

  • Carrots
  • Sunflowers
  • Sweet potato
  • Broad beans
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Spinach
  • Silverbeet
  • Strawberries
  • Kale
  • Lettuce

We are very excited to soon be able to share our wonderful, organic produce with you. We will be running a small produce stall under the sails area in the morning to sell some of what we have grown for a gold coin donation. The money raised will help the gardening club continue to purchase seedlings and seeds for the remainder of the year. Please stay tuned for more information about times and days. Also if anyone would like to join us, we meet every Wednesday at lunchtime and Friday at lunchtime to water.

This week some of the children made bird cakes and then hung them in the trees for the birds.

QOP Welcoming Banner

Last week all families were sent home a small square of material. Families are asked to write or draw a simple sketch about a way that your family welcomes people. It could be a hug, handshake, a meal etc. We encourage all families to complete their square and return to school by Tuesday 5 April so that Mrs Rigby can use the school holidays to sew the banner together.  It will be on display throughout the year at Queen of Peace. Thank you who have already returned the squares already. They are looking fantastic.

Hobsons Bay Division Swimming Championships

On Wednesday 16 March, 24 students represented QoP at the Hobson’s Bay Primary School’s Division Championships. They all swam excellently and behaved in a way they should be very proud of.  Particular congratulations should also go to the following students who have made it through to the Regional Championships.

Well done swimmers!!

A message from the QOP Office

To avoid disruption to classrooms, if children need to be collected early they should be picked up at the lunch break (at 1:30pm Monday or 1:40pm Tuesday-Friday). It is also very disruptive for classes and the office to be passing on messages to children in the afternoons. It would be appreciated if the teachers and office staff are notified prior to collection to keep interruptions to a minimum.

Lost Property

Is your child missing any items of uniform? There are quite a few unnamed jumpers, jackets, drink bottles and hats in the Lost Property box located behind the admin building. Please encourage your child to check the box for any missing goodies. If your item is clearly named (surname preferred!) it can be returned. In the last week of term we will clear out the Lost Property box, anything unclaimed will either be donated to charity or disposed of.

Music Around the School

Ukulele Program

Aloha! Did you know the music room now has a colourful wall of rainbow ukuleles? This term our grade 5 & 6 students have been learning new chords and strumming patterns and we are really looking forward to playing for you at an assembly in the near future.

The QOP Ukulele program is great! The system includes learning how to play chords, how to strum and how to hold the ukulele correctly. Additionally, it’s a fun experience. -

Oliver,  Year 5

The ukulele program is a great experience. It has taught me a lot. - Eloise, Year 5

Junior and Senior Choir

Congratulations to both the junior and senior choir who performed for our students at a special Harmony Day celebration. The children did a fabulous job and we are looking forward to watching them perform at many more assemblies and special occasions this year. All students are welcome to join the choir:

Juniors (Year 1 & 2) : every Friday recess

Seniors (3-6): every Tuesday & Friday lunch time

Prep Enrolment 2023

A reminder that enrolment application deadline is Friday 29 April.  If you have a child ready to start Prep in 2023, please visit the Enrolments section of our website to read important information.  Please note that you do need to lodge an application for any younger siblings wishing to start next year.

Uniform Shop

On Thursdays our Uniform Shop Manager, Leanne MacGibbon fills orders and sends home the items with students. You may wish to place an order for winter uniform in preparation for the cooler weather ahead. For returns or exchanges (within three months) items must be unworn and tag still attached. Orders should be placed online via quickcliq.com.au.

As a general guide, we ask that the summer uniform be worn during terms 1 & 4, winter uniform during term 2 & 3. However, we strongly suggest to parents that they have the children wear the uniform most comfortable for any particular day so students may wear summer or winter uniform regardless of the school term.

Parking at Queen of Peace

Please do not park in the car spots allocated to the Parish.   Father John has asked that we give a friendly reminder to all parents. There are signs that clearly ask you not to park there, even if you believe you'll just be there for two mins doing a pick up/drop off.

Don't Forget...

Parents, you are able to view the school's google calendar of events. Please ensure you check in regularly to keep up to date with school happenings.  Refer to the final section of this newsletter 'Calendar & Events' for further information and the link. The Community Calendar can also be accessed via the school website.
