Reflection

This upcoming Sunday, five students will be receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion for the first time and our thoughts and prayers are with them. Some of the students have asked during their preparations, why is the parish celebrating this important milestone this Sunday, where many other parishes are not?

One of the reasons why First Holy Communion is this Sunday is that the Church is celebrating the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. This is a day of gratitude for the gift of the Eucharist.

Each time we gather at Mass, we listen to God's word with readings from the Bible. We pray for the world and for the church, and we give thanks to God over bread and wine. Then, united with God and one another, we share the bread and wine that have become the Body and Blood of Christ. Christians have promised to do this every Sunday in memory of Jesus, just as he asked. This is what we hear in this Sunday's Mass Readings.

Prayer

Loving God,

through the bread and wine of the Eucharist

you give us a share in the life, death

and resurrection of your son, Jesus.

Guide us by his Holy Spirit

and lead us to the heavenly banquet table.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

First Holy Communion

We have five students who will be receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time this upcoming Sunday 19th June at St Patrick's Church commencing at 10.00am. All of the preparation work has been completed and Adelaide, Claire, David, Grace and Katie are ready to receive this sacrament. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they develop their understanding and appreciation of  how we remember the teachings and sacrifice of Jesus Christ through through Holy Communion. Everyone is invited to join us for this special occasion.
