Principal's report

Greetings to Parents, Carers, Students and Community Members of the MPWPS,

What a wonderful community event we had on Saturday.  I was overcome with the generosity of our parents, partners, carers, students and community members.  Not only did we have many many cakes, biscuits and other wonderful treats we had the best sausage sizzle ever!  Real sausages made to be comfortable in the hand from Porterhaus in Pratt St Moonee Ponds.  What a wonderful donation, 70kgs to be exact!  To Bakers Delight a big thank you as all the bread was donated as well. It was terrific to see the parents and carers working side by side to ensure that our school was represented and a service provided at this community event.

To the small band of dedicated fundraisers thank you as well.  Without this small team not much can be done.  I really appreciate your time, effort and enthusiasm.  Bet it was shoes off, and dozing in front of the TV on Saturday night.  You should have been exhausted!

Thank you to Brian and Sandra for their behind the scenes work before, during and after the event!

Staffing

We are at present filling a vacancy and appointing personnel within the school to our school structure.  It is always a rush to the end no matter how organised you think you may be.

At present we are placing children into their new classes for  2019 and we are considerate of all the elements. We are seeking feedback from staff (Teaching and Specialist) on the first run of groupings and where possible making the changes as requested.  In the end we have to draw the line and say we think this is the best grouping of students.  Of course as Principal I monitor the classes until the Easter break because sometimes what looks perfect on paper may not work in reality. I tell you this so that you can be understanding of the detailed process we go through in order to develop the positive learning environment for your child.

Foundation transition

We have the final session this coming week on Thursday.  It has been very pleasing to see all the children settle so well and the parents/carers attend the Parent Information sessions in the Library. Your feedback on the sessions has been very positive and I hope that the information varied enough for you to get a feel for the school and the learning that we support here.

Lost Property

Prior to the Election I removed a squillion pieces of lost property from the Gym. I plan to put it out on the platform on FRIDAY for the rightful owners to collect. All items left will be going to the Brotherhood. Please encourage your child to find their piece of clothing.

Toilet Renovation

The demolition has begun! Bill the steam shovel (not sure of the stream in this day and age) was hard at work on Friday and the rubble was removed on Monday.  The contractors are planning to pour the slab before the Christmas break.  It is all go!  How lovely is the painting at the end of the building facing Lennox Street?  This has been hidden by the toilets and now holds its own for all to admire.

Well, that’s about it from me this week.  Until we meet in person have a satisfying week of work and pleasure.

Sincerely

Kerri Simpson

Principal (Acting)
