Acting Principal

Mr Chris Grimmer

Final Days of 2019

We’ve reached the end of the 2019 school year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank students, staff and parents for all helping make 2019 another successful year at Merbein P-10 College.

The traditional end-of-year events have now been completed, including the Awards Presentation Evening for the whole school which was held at the Mildura Arts Centre and the Prep-Year 6 Graduation Ceremony which was held last Friday morning in the Gym.  Many thanks to our teaching and support staff for their planning and organisation of these important celebrations.  The office staff in particular provide enormous support with the preparation of reports, certificates and awards for both of these major events.

Congratulations to every student whose achievements were recognised with an award, certificate, bursary or scholarship. Thanks also to the many parents, family members and carers who attended these events to support their children.

I would also like to publically thank the many businesses, local service groups and local families who generously sponsored many of the awards.   Your support is greatly appreciated by the school and highly valued by the recipients of the awards.

Staffing

On behalf of the staff, students and families at Merbein P-10 College, I wanted to congratulate both Mr Andrew Petrie and Ms Rebecca Ogden who have successfully gained new positions for next year. Andrew was successful in gaining an ongoing position at St Joseph’s College, whilst Rebecca will be transferring to Chaffey SC after successfully being appointed to an ongoing positon there. I wish them every success in the future and thank them for their contribution to the college and acknowledge the impact they have had on many of our students, staff and families over their time at Merbein P-10 College.

The process to appoint someone to the primary classroom teacher vacancy was completed on Friday. I would like to congratulate and welcome Chris Harris who was the successful applicant. Chris has taught at Ranfurly PS and Werrimul P-12 over recent years and will be taking a grade 5/6 next year at Merbein P-10. I’m sure everyone will make him feel very welcome.

Last Day of School

With an expected top temperature of 46 degrees on Friday we will be organising some quiet indoor activities for those students who are attending and all students will need to remain inside during the recess break due to the extreme weather.

All students who will be walking, riding or being picked up on Friday will be dismissed at 1:30pm. Any bus travellers will need to wait until 2:30pm to be dismissed, as this is when the first bus will arrive at Merbein P-10 College.

On the last day of term, Friday 20th December 2019, ALL SCHOOL BUS afternoon runs, EXCEPT THE NSW BUS, will commence one hour earlier than a regular school day.

NB: ALL PUBLIC SERVICE ROUTES  WILL CONTINUE TO RUN AT THEIR NORMAL TIMES AS PER THE CURRENT TIMETABLE.

Any student that would normally catch connecting buses will be required to make their own arrangements.

Wherever possible, Buslink Sunraysia staff will be happy to advise and assist.

I would like to wish students, families and staff a safe and happy Christmas/ New Year break.

Victorian Government's New Mobile Phone Policy

The Merbein P-10 College Phone Policy for 2020 outlines the way in which mobile devices will be used from the first day of school next year and beyond. (The new policy is included as an attachment with the electronic newsletter, appears on the school website and is available as a hard copy at the front office.) I strongly recommend that all families take the time to read the policy and speak with your children about the expectations for 2020. This is a ministerial order and therefore must be followed by schools across Victoria.
