News from Year 6
Writing
Over the last few weeks, grade 6 students have been exploring the structure, language features, and devices used in persuasive texts. They concluded the unit by composing a persuasive letter to school leadership to convince them of the necessity of an 'idea' they had to improve our school. Here are some excerpts from these letters:
Chain nets on the basketball hoops
Isn't it essential a basketball hoop has a net?
It’s really infuriating when the ball goes over the fence and a teacher has to go and get it. It wastes so much time.
~ Ethan Tran
When you get a swish you don't know if the ball has gone in through the hoop. At basketball, I got a 3 and there was a hole in the net and I thought I missed ... and it went in.
~ Oliver Ireland
Japanese in its own room
While you're in Japanese some students might come in for the library because it's in the same room. It has been like this for 100 years so I think we need to change it soon. This would make the school more organised, wouldn’t it?
~ Willow Barrie
Drinking fountains in the stick area
Never have I ever seen a stick area without a drinking fountain! This is ridiculous and if we go any longer it won't look good! Children dropping to the ground because they have no way of getting to the taps before it's too late! So many kids get dehydrated from playing in the stick area. There are perfectly good places for 1 or 2 drinking fountains and maybe a sink!
~ Evie O'Regan
Dehydrated dying kids need our help, dehydrated dying kids want our help, dehydrated dying kids want drinking taps!
~ Natasha Bradley
Trampolines at school
People who need brain breaks or have a lot of energy in class time could get all that energy out, by bouncing on the trampoline [with a teacher’s supervision]. All kids enjoy trampolines and it's been proven that a trampoline could drain a lot of energy in only 5 minutes!

M.L.M.C. Wizard of Oz
Last Thursday the Grade 5/6 students were invited to Mount Lilydale Mercy College to watch their school musical "The Wizard of Oz". This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see a live musical theatre production as they continue to work hard learning lines, songs and choreography for our own school musical 'Shrek Jr".
Lake Mountain Ski Trip
On Tuesday thirteen members of our class experienced skiing and tobogganing at Lake Mountain. There are heaps of great photos in Mr Foley's sport section of this newsletter - make sure you check them out!
