Identity Months @ TDSB

November is Indigenous Education Month

Each November, TDSB celebrates Indigenous Education Month (IEM), by centering Indigenous perspectives, histories and contemporary realities across the curriculum in classrooms across the city. IEM 2018 will be an opportunity for all students, staff and community members to learn together about our shared history and treaties, to deepen knowledge, and to build stronger relationships between Canada’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. As we focus on the achievements and accomplishments of Indigenous peoples in Canada over the course of IEM 2018, we will also be recognizing a number of Indigenous Days of Significance, including those Days that have particular meaning for the Inuit and Métis Nations - for more information on each of the events, please click here Urban Indigenous Education Centre.

November is Hindu Heritage Month

In 2016, the Government of Ontario declared the month of November each year as Hindu Heritage Month. TDSB Trustees voted in April 2018 to also recognize the month of November as Hindu Heritage Month in our schools. The theme for this year is Namaste. Namaste is a way of showing respect and that you are equal to one another. It means the divine in me bows to the divine in you. It is used with all people one meets, from young and old to friends and strangers. The bowing down of the head is a gracious form of extending friendship in love, respect, and humility. The Hindu Heritage Month Launch will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Sir John A. MacDonald Collegiate Institute, 2300 Pharmacy Avenue in the Auditorium. Please join us.
