Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Back At School!

It was beyond wonderful to have everyone (students, staff and families) back onsite at school and doing 'face to face learning'.

I commend our whole community for the way you dealt with yet another abrupt change and tackled the challenge that 'lockdown' and 'Remote Learning' brings with it. Although not anyone's ideal situation, we know that we can deal with whatever is put in front of us.

Myself and the ACS staff have been extremely pleased with how settled and engaged students have been as they transitioned back and really, we've able pick right back up where we left off. We are all set for next week and look positively towards the rest of the Term being uninterrupted.

My thoughts are with those who are still in Lockdown and Remote Learning in Metropolitan Melbourne, particularly the schools and any family and friends of the ACS Community.

Curriculum Day Rescheduled

Next Friday June 11th was due to be a Curriculum Day. Due the disruption of Lockdown and wanting to have the least disruption possible through to the end of Term we have decided to postpone this date with the endorsement of School Council.

We have tentatively re-scheduled for a date in early Term 3 and I will update families when I can confirm this.

Education Week

Last week was an opportunity for Victorian government schools to profile and celebrate our strengths and achievements. We conducted a number of exciting activities in line with this year’s theme ‘Building Connections’, where students could strengthen their connectedness to our school and the wider community.

Among the activities and learning experiences students and staff engaged in were

Daily:

Shared reading over the PA during lunch eating time – stories related to the theme of ‘Building Connections’ read by our students.
Colouring competition running during P-2 and 3-6 Inside Clubs at recess and lunch, featuring pictures of our local community.
Opportunities for students to write letters to members of our local community

Student Representative Council members were supposed to visit our local kinders to read stories and enjoy the company of our local children. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas, but our students demonstrated our ACS values of Care and Commitment to the plan by creating beautiful pictures for them to colour instead. Some students also recorded themselves reading stories for the children, and others made cards. We are proud to be connected to our local community!

Across the school, students participated in a multi-age ‘buddy’ activity, where they will identified and discussed different communities, they are a part of.

All in all it was a great week and I thank all of the staff involved in coordinating it and the students for their engagement and enthusiasm.

School Photos have arrived today and been distributed to your child's Learning Community. Photos should be coming home with child/ren tonight, if you do not receive them please check with your child's teacher. If you ordered family group photos, these will be given to your eldest child at the school.

Staffing Updates

Hi I’m Jack. I am excited to be joining the Armstrong Creek School team as a Secondary teacher. I have been working as a Primary teacher for the last six years in Melton and Geelong.

On the weekend you will find me spending time with my partner and two daughters, fishing, walking the dog, playing cricket, and enjoying the local beaches.

I am driven to help all students succeed and look forward to working with the ACS community.

Hi I'm Melissa, I was born and raised in Central Gippsland where I grew up on a farm and attended local primary and secondary schools. My husband and I relocated to Geelong in September 2017 after many holidays here on the Surf Coast. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Secondary Education and a Master of Education (Special Educational Needs) and prior to joining ACS, I have taught in secondary schools both here and in Gippsland.

I have held various roles during my teaching time and taught an array of subjects and extra curricular activities. Most recently I have been the VCAL and Applied Learning Coordinator at a Geelong secondary school where I was able to pursue my interest for real world learning.

In my free time you’ll catch me at the beach with my dog or exploring sites in our local area. I am really excited to be joining the secondary team here at ACS.

Medication at School

A reminder to families that all medications required to be taken at school by students must be accompanied by a completed and signed Medication Authority Form from parents \ carers.

All medication is to be handed in to the office in original packaging.

Medication will then be administered to students at the allocated time by a first aid trained staff member. These include medications such as anti-biotics, Panadol, Neurofen, Ventolin etc.

We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Lacey and Madison J's grandparents for the enormous donation of 300+ books they delivered to our school a few weeks ago.

They have now been bar-coded and added to the libraries in our learning communities right across the school for all students (and staff!) to enjoy!
