Structured Workplace Learning Opportunities

Our Year 11 and 12 students are now a few weeks into their VET Courses at various TAFEs all over Melbourne. Some of those students are completing the Vocational Major alongside those VET courses are beginning to explore opportunities for Structured Workplace Learning to coincide with what they are learning at TAFE.

We’re looking to our Beaumaris Community to see if we have any business contacts in the following spaces that might be interested to take a student on for one day a week for a semester - see list below! Please email jack.crameri@education.vic.gov.au

Apprenticeship Opportunities

As the school reached capacity this year, with our first cohort of Year 12’s, we are now approaching a time where a number of our students are exploring opportunities to enter the workforce, either through a full-time apprenticeship or a school-based apprenticeship.

If our Beaumaris Community knows of any of these opportunities that are available, it would be great if you could email jack.crameri@education.vic.gov.au who can hopefully help place some of our students into our communities workforce.

We’re currently looking for apprenticeship opportunities in the following industries and regions to take on Beaumaris students through a school-based apprenticeship (SBAT).

Deakin Careers Practitioners Day – March 2023

During the year, our team (Jack Crameri and Andy Farrow) will be visiting the Universities and Institutes of Melbourne to get a feel for the campuses, find out any updates and relay that information back to our Beaumaris Community. (Of Note - We’re in planning for the Year 12s to visit a range of Universities and Institutes later in the year, as well as reminding students)

Deakin’s Top 10 most popular courses. Bachelor degrees in Nursing, Exercise and Sport Science, Psychology (Honours), Nursing/Midwifery, Commerce, Business, Education (Primary), Exercise and Sport Science/Business, Criminology/Psychological science, Psychological science.

Deakin fun facts:

  • Deakin are the market leaders in the following areas.
    • Psychology (Honours)
    • Exercise and Sport Science
    • Cyber Security
    • Nursing
    • Film, Television and Animation
  • Deakin has been ranked No. 1 in Victoria for Student Experience 6 years in a row.
  • Deakin has been ranked No. 1 in Victoria for Student Satisfaction 12 years in a row.
  • In 2022, Deakin was ranked No. 1 in Victoria for Student Employment post completion.
  • Deakin has a 70/30 split in students completing face to face and online studies.

My Deakin observations:

  • Understanding option for plenty of courses and industries, including being a leader in a number of really popular university choices.
  • Deakin has 4 campus locations, 1 in Burwood, 2 in Geelong and 1 in Warrnambool. This presents some great opportunities but also some challenges, as some courses are only run at Geelong, which would mean relocation if those courses were options for some of our students.
  • The data about student experience and satisfaction is important, especially when you're considering 3 or more years of your life will be heavily associated with this institution.
