Principal's Report
“The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not followers.” Ralph Nader
We announced our 2023 student leadership team (pictured on the 2023 Student Leaders page) at yesterday’s assembly. Our student leaders are set up to transform the world around them. As young leaders, they have an opportunity to influence circumstances, events and people. Each leader represents a sector of our college and their voices are central to those you represent. They must encourage the voices of all to be heard so that no one is left out. They embody the values that the Beaumaris Community considers important this includes the learning and wellbeing of fellow students at the college. As leaders we must choose kindness when communicating our message.
It is important that we recognise, acknowledge and learn from those who demonstrate the balance, and bravery to challenge themselves - which is what we heard from Jen Willis as she shared her bravery for being the first woman with MS to climb Mount Everest.
This Wednesday is International Women's Day with a theme that is to embrace equity. This is about belonging and inclusion. Our student leadership team will collaborate, cooperate and demonstrate care. Being included and having a sense of belonging is more than just wearing a school uniform. The International Women’s Day theme drives home this message with:
Think it
Be it
Do it
Don’t just say it.
We all play a part. Each of us has an opportunity and responsibility to our school community. The high expectations for learning and wellbeing at the college are central to our safe and orderly learning environment.
Our student leaders are optimistic for the future. Our student leaders will listen to new ideas of others and critically assess their merit. Think it.
Our student leaders will model respect in all their interactions embracing the diversity around us. Be it.
We empower our students to amplify their voices. Student leaders are part of the shared decision making and a great example is how the structure of the day was changed, uniform changes and planning year level events like formals. Do it.
Our leadership induction assembly allows us to celebrate students who are all in and want to have a voice representing their peers. I look forward to working with each of you and have confidence that you will provide a strong student voice that will support learning and wellbeing for all students at the college. Each of you has a responsibility to embrace equity in all you do – choose kindness.
Year 12 Formal
Another milestone event in our Year 12 students’ journey. It was wonderful to see them dressed up and enjoying the evening. The venue in Albert Park provided a lovely backdrop with Albert Park Lake. They danced, laughed and generally enjoyed the night. The photo booth was a hit and our very own Mr de Valle was the photographer capturing the night on camera. Our Year 12 students Margot and Niamh did an outstanding job bringing it all together.
