3/4 Orienteering Incursion by Ava and Lilly – Room 17

On the 6th of December 2022, Supreme Incursions came to our school to deliver a maths related incursion. This incursion included a need of knowledge of reading compasses , clues, and maps. Our task was to find answers hidden around the school with the help of a sheet of clues given to each team. Every correct answer a team achieves you are given five coins. In the end the team with the most coins is declared the winner. Each team has a chance of getting bonus points for either sticking together or working as a team. The materials you are given in a clear backpack is an iPad to type in your answers, a compass to track north to west, a sheet of clues, and multiple keys to unlock safes with answers and photo clues inside. This activity was a fun learning experience for 2022s Grade 3/4s.

Thank you Supreme Incursions!

Australian Maths Competition

A few months ago, 49 students from grades 3 – 6 took part in the Australian Maths Competition. The AMC is an annual competition with interesting and challenging problems to be solved across all areas of mathematics. It is open to all students from grade 3 and up.

Some outstanding achievements this year include Andy L in year 4, who received a High Distinction for his result in the competition. Distinctions were also achieved by George R, Emerson K, Frank D (Year 3), Leo W, Cooper S (Year 4), Ryan A (Year 5), Lachie A and Jerome Z (Year 6). Many more students achieved Credit or Proficiency scores. Certificates went home via the classroom last week – please contact Lisa or Sandra if you did not received yours.

We are very proud of all students who challenged themselves with something new in the Maths Competition. If you are in grades 3-6 in 2023, please join next year!

Congratulations to all students who participated and hopefully you will have a go again next year!

MPW CIRCUS

On the 7th of December, the year 5’s and 6’s performed in the 2022 HipHop/ 80’s Odd Socks Circus. Everyone wore neon bright 80’s outfits and it was really cool to see everyone wearing sweatbands, tutus and many other crazy and creative outfit ideas while they performed.

Everyone had worked extremely hard putting in their own time to practise and rehearse. The acts consisted of Gymnastics, Diablo, Spinning plates, Spin sticks, Juggling and the finale.. Everyone performed extremely well and everyone tried their best. Some made mistakes but laughed it off and kept going on with their act. The MCs kept us entertained in between acts and their jokes were hilarious.

The performance lasted thirty minutes and was pure joy to watch. All the acts came together to form a huge finale. Everyone was doing their acts together and we even had roller skaters skating around. It was a very fascinating ending.

Thank you to all the teachers and volunteers for making this circus the best it could be.

And an extra BIG thank you to Shane for taking the time to come to school for almost every circus practice to help us all do our best.

MPW Colour Fun Run

On the 12th of December M.P.W. had the very first colour run! Earlier in the morning some JSC reps along with some parent helpers and teachers all helped set up the course, then later at 12:00 the colour run began.

People sat with excitement as they were handed glasses and headbands then, one by one, classes were called to begin their run. Explosions of colour appeared on kids as they sprinted through the obstacles. Happiness and joy grew and grew across everyone's faces. Screams of excitement echoed across the oval.

And then, just like that it was all over.

It was such a great day and thank you to all the parents and teachers that helped out.
