Principal's Report

Hello BRPS Community,

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope all families were able to enjoy some time together over the recent term break and you're now refreshed and ready for an exciting term of learning and special events.

We've certainly hit the ground running in the first two weeks of this semester - so far we've had a Year 4/5/6 Art Incursion with the 'GladWrappers,' (creating artworks inspired by similar installations to the now very colourful Black Rock Clock Tower), Year 5/6 Girls Football Competition, Year 1 and 2 excursions  and

As well as many additional sporting activities, Book Week and Science Week, Year 1/2 swimming lessons and Year 4 Camp, the feature event this term is the  2023 School Concert - Lights Up! It's an exciting whole-school event which you can read more about on the Assistant Principal page. With rehearsals well and truly underway, we're looking forward  to "lighting up" Robert Blackwood Hall with you in August!

Before and After School Expectations

Pick-up and drop-off

We appreciate parental/carer support in dropping students at school no earlier than 8.45am and picking up no later than 3.45pm. The school yard is not supervised by teachers outside the stated times.

Ball games and running

Due to high to a high volume of foot traffic in and out of the school 15 minutes either side of the start and end of the day, ball sports and running games are not allowed during these times.

Bikes and Scooters

Similarly, we thank all students and parents for walking bikes and scooters through the school grounds at all times.

We also ask all students to ride carefully and follow all road rules on their way to school.

Carparks - Out of Bounds

Parents and students are not to park in or walk through either of the staff carparks at any time - this is a health and safety matter and

NAPLAN  - changes to reporting

NAPLAN results for Year 3 and Year 5 students have been released this week, with some changes to this year's reporting. These are changes being introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels, these are,:

· exceeding

· strong

· developing

· needs additional support.

We have received preliminary 2023 data only at this stage, however it indicates very positive outcomes for student achievement at our school. I look forward to sharing the outcomes with our school community as we receive more detailed information throughout this term.

2024 Foundation Enrolments & Transition

TRANSITION

On Tuesday we had a very successful 'Fictional Favourites' transition session for our newest students commencing at BRPS next year. Thank you to the Foundation teachers for supporting such fun and engaging activities as the children take their first steps towards primary school. I would also like thank the Year 5 teachers and students as they took on the role of 'buddies' for the current Foundation students as the activities took place, as well as a super team of Year 4 helpers - Hudson, Oliver, Kate and Samara who kept everything organised!

Our next transition session, "Perfect Patterns," will take place on Wednesday 16th August. All enrolled and prospective families are welcome to attend.
