School Council Meeting 19th June
June's meeting covered all of the MPWPS School council's objectives, being primarily:- to assist in the efficient governance of the school- to ensure that its decisions affecting students are made having regard to the best interest of the students - to enhance the educational opportunities of students at the school- to ensure the school and School Council comply with government regulations. The highlight of June's meeting was an update provided by two of the JSC members, Oliver and Maddie who spoke eloquently about JSC activities, notably the bake sale as part of the Biggest Morning tea fundraiser for the Cancer Council. They also spent time answering questions from School Council members about JSC activities. JSC activities have included improving better sharing of some high-demand playground spaces, and looking to create a "Green Team" to progress environmental and sustainability objectives.
Jarrod's Principal's report covered staffing changes, camping programs, next year's enrolments and three-way conferences to be held early in term 3.
An update from the Resources sub-committee focused on its special area of interest, notably school assets, finances, and third party contractor arrangements. Key points included:- Group Accident Insurance policy being approved for renewal (this insurance is covered as part of the Parent Contributions schedule).- A review of Spriggy Lunch ordering app and provider showed positive results from both parents and the providers.
An update from the Education sub-committee noted that ongoing reporting and End of Semester reporting will trial a new format for Semester 2, following feedback from staff and parents.
An update from the Community Engagement and Partnerships sub-committee highlighted cybersecurity as a key area of focus, notably facilitating training and resources for both students and parents.
The Environment Committee has been recently reformed and is looking at establishing environment policies for the school. MPWPS has registered for Resource Smart Schools, which provides information and resources to assist integrating sustainability into school activities.
A Capital Works Update provided the latest information on the progress of the upcoming capital works upgrade.
To finalise the meeting, all School Councillors completed Child Safe School training which was expertly facilitated by Jarrod. This outlined the school's comprehensive approach to child safety, including ongoing training for the School Council, staff and volunteers to ensure the safety of students is considered in all aspects of school operations.
The school council meets at the school most months, and welcomes anybody from the school community who is interested in its operations to attend future meetings. Whether you are interested in joining the Council in future, or just want to see how the school is governed, just check the dates and let Sandra know you'd like to come!
