Junior School News/Events

Dear Junior School Parents/Carers and Students

Year 7 Camps

Over the past month we have held four fantastic Year 7 Camps at Golden Valleys in Flinders. Our Year 9 LEAD students ran activities for our Year 7 students on all camps and were enthusiastic role models to our youngest students. Thank you to Ms Sarah Bahramis (Head of Student Voice, Agency and Leadership) for her support and organisation of our student leaders. A big thank you to Ms Samantha Cody (Head of Year 7), Ms Phoebe Macreadie (Year 7 Coordinator), Ms Catherine Kyriakos (Year 7 Coordinator) and Mrs Sharee Dew (Junior School and Transition Education Support) for their leadership of the camps, supported by the Year 8 Team (Ms Emily Sykes, Mr Joel McMahon and Mrs Jess Knights) and to all staff who volunteered their time to attend.

Year 7 NAPLAN

All Year 7 students will participate in NAPLAN testing from Wednesday 15 until Monday 20 March and then catch ups after that if students are absent on test days.

All students are expected to attend and give it their best effort.  Please see NAPLAN page for more details

Year 7 Meet and Greet

Please join us for our upcoming Year 7 Parent Meet & Greet Evening on Monday 27 March.  This is a great opportunity to meet our Principal Team, Year 7 Teachers and Educational Support Staff, along with other Year 7 Parents/Carers. YEAR 7 CAMPS

Thank you to Year 7 students Gemma and Xavier for providing some reflections on their camp experiences below:

From February 20 to March 3, the Year 7 students went on their camp to Golden Valleys. My class was in the second group to go and my time there was amazing. It was such a beautiful place, and all the activity instructors were really nice people. It was great to see people doing the activities and playing during free time. I can’t speak for everyone, but I thought that the food was incredible, probably some of the best camp food I’ve ever had. On the first night of camp, we had a night walk. It was probably about an hour or more. We went pass the creek and did a loop back to the camp. It was really tiring, but I kind of liked it. The second night, we had our Fluro disco. It was very loud, but a lot of fun and everyone had great outfits. As well as our group activities, there was lots of stuff to do during free time. There was a volleyball court, human foosball, a soccer pitch and more. All the activities, including the ones in free time were super fun. This camp was just an absolute blast, and I loved every minute of it.  Gemma G | 7B

On Monday 20 February, my class went to camp at Golden Valleys Adventure Camp, a trip full of time with friends, delicious food, and several awesome activities such as Giant Swing, Archery, and Leap of Faith. The first of the activities was Archery, we all got a quick debrief of how to aim and handle the bow carefully, before we got into it. Everyone got to have at least a dozen shots, and we even had a competition at the end. The second one was the Leap of Faith. This involves climbing up an 8m pole, to get to a platform, you jump from the platform, and the rope attached to your harness catches you about halfway down and lowers you to the ground. It’s scary, but also really fun. Next was the zipline, it was about 75m long, and my 2nd favourite activity. We all got about four runs each. There was also a challenge, you got a ball, and there was a bucket on the ground in the middle, you had to drop the ball into the bucket, and if you did, you got an Icy Pole. The last, and best activity was the giant swing. Basically, you were strapped into a really complex harness, then attached to a cord connected to three 18m high poles. You were then pulled up 18m by a rope that your classmates were pulling on. Finally, you are released, swinging so high, and getting an amazing view. This was easily the best activity in the whole camp. The food was really delicious. The first meal was schnitzel with mac and cheese, followed by a breakfast buffet with cereal and toast, lunch on the second day was a burger, which was my favourite meal, afterward, there was a dinner of a delectable burrito bowl, and another buffet in the morning. Altogether, it was a truly incredible camp, full of thrilling activities, wonderful food, and making new friendships.  Xavier A | 7J
