Extended School Day

Thank you to all of the students and staff who have participated in the Extended School Day Program and especially to the parents who often have to make a second visit to school to collect their children at the end of the session. Traffic is always difficult and we need your support to always consider other children and make sure your own children don't cross until clear.  We need to always remind you that much of Indianna Avenue is a no standing zone so please don't stop to collect children in this space.

On a happier note some of the older students have an Anime Cub that they are loving and the younger ones as you can see from this video had a great time doing Circus Skills.

PERFORMING and VISUAL ARTS IN P-8

VISUAL ARTS

In Visual Arts, the 5/6’s have been looking at the Impressionist movement and taking inspiration to create their own mixed media artworks. Students were asked to research and choose an impressionist landscape of their choice. The task focused on the texture and impressionist like brush strokes which were all to be incorporated in the final product.

Student insights:

Ally TD1: I chose Monet and his water lilies. I liked adding paint because it gave my artwork more texture and took it to another level.

Casey TD2:  I was inspired by the impressionists to create my artwork. I liked the whole thing, but painting the details was my favourite part.

Performing Arts

Prep students from the Wexford Campus are having loads of fun during their weekly Performing Arts class. They are learning lots of new skills relating to dance and this week practicing ribbon dance, by both following a ribbon dance routine and also improvising.

There has been a move this year to make the Performing Arts rooms into effective teaching and learning spaces and in the Wexford example below every students was asked to put their name on the bunting and the new musical carpet is really popular with students.

The students have been loving their new IMPACT uniform and have been wearing it with pride. With our new design for our pillar of Excellence students, students can now wear their IMPACT top every day of the week, in their school uniform, while being identified as our IMPACT ambassadors. Some of them 'volunteered' to have their photo taken which for teenagers is a big ask!

& Juliet is a coming-of-age jukebox musical featuring the music of songwriter Max Martin. What if the ending of Shakespeare's' Romeo & Juliet was really the beginning? What if Juliet chose her own fate? On the 17 May the Year 10 MPACT students had the privilege of visiting the prestigious Regent Theatre in Melbourne to see the new production & Juliet and find out what might have happened to Juliet if Shakespeare had a different ending!

For many this was their first experience at a live show in Melbourne, and they were not disappointed

This was my first theatre experience. I loved going out to the theatre and being in front of the actors and being a part of the audience. It was amazing and the theatre itself was really special. Brock

& Juliet, the amazing love story, remixed the entire musical. It was made up of amazing actors and musicians and awesome lighting and special effects people but the most important people in the musical were the players. They danced and did all these amazing performances for the show and brought all the wonderful dances to life. They made the audience feel like getting up and dancing (in fact at the we DID!!. The dancers played a huge part in the musical and brought the storyline and music to an amazing level.

On Google there is a clip from a London show with the final cast appreciation that shows just what a fun and lively show this is.

After the show was finished, we were able to attend a Q & A with the cast and crew of the show. Learning about the experienced people who worked backstage, as well as on stage is something we found interesting and bizarre. To hear that the crew along, director, soud engineer, choreographer and the cast knew what they wanted to pursue at a young age are fascinating stories to listen to. To meet these professionals face to face once in a lifetime is phenomenal. Julia

"I think the sets and props were really cool and well produced, The Stage would rise and change with different songs and even spin during travel scenes, all together it was very impressive and i would definitely go again" Kye

The lighting and aesthetic of & Juliet was absolutely amazing it was extremely colourful flashy and poppy, the costumes were a combination of Shakespearian and modern clothes and the music was just amazing all pop songs written by Max Martin - and re vamped for the Musical and was clearly the most amazing part along with the exciting aesthetic. In a wonderful new development SEED has arranged for coaches to now attend the P-8 Campuses for their very own Track Club. This has been a major success at Goldsworthy and we have listened to the Year 6 through 8 students who want to improve their running skills. This flier gives the days of the week for each campus. Younger students with high potential may also be identified for support. Participation will only be with parental / carer approval.

A terrific number of young athletes have made the commitment at each campus so far but of course we are happy to work with any youngster who wants primarily to enjoy running and secondly to want to improve.

Thirdly, if they see a future as a runner, this is something we strongly encourage children to join in.

Finally, the track club clearly appeals to boys but we are certain there are a squad of girls  who would get a great deal out of the club. Come along and see if it is something you and your friends would like to do.

Women's Sport

How is this for school pride. Our AFLW girls are leading the way in sport.

YEAR 6 SEEDLINGS

My great appreciation to Emily and Callum who took it upon themselves to write a little article about how much they enjoy the SEEDLINGS program.

Seedlings for Year 6 students is an ideal preparation for the major move to Year 7 8 seed Program which includes all Year 7 and 8 students undertaking a range of skill development, sports exercise and training at secondary school with qualified coaches.

Every Friday the Year 6s across our whole college get together to form different sporting teams at the Tallis Campus, it’s called Seedlings.

At seedlings, we get to choose one sport to play for the rest of the semester. Such as: Volleystars, Netball, Football, T-ball and Soccer. But sadly for the footballers there weren't enough people to form a team for the lightning prem.

Every week we catch a bus to Tallis and train with kids across the college in our chosen sport. In 2 weeks we will all compete in the Winter Lightning Premiership for the first time!  Seedlings is a fun activity to do on Fridays for year 6s and we all look forward to it!
