Coming Back from War By Hser Ther Blay
On the day of our return to Australia I had lots of mixed emotions,
I was excited to be back in my home land but I had sad memories about the war,
Losing all my friends in the war,
Feeling hungry and dehydrated without enough food or water,
Blood was all around us in the fields with dead bodies everywhere,
Feeling scared until the war was finished,
It was time to go back home to feel safe,
Now it was time to celebrate with enough food and water,
Now it was time to sleep but I’m hearing guns shooting and bombs exploding and I’m seeing a thousand soldiers dead,
I’m awake now, it was just a dream! Lest we forget!
When Your Son Goes to War By Kaleigh
When your son says he is going to war you start to cry, your body becomes tired from shaking and you hug and you say goodbye.
Your son is on the battlefield. You send him biscuits, you know he would love to eat them so much.
He responds with a letter, “Love you Mum, love you Dad and I miss you! I love the biscuits. It's been 4 years since this started!”
Then a car comes to your door, your son walks out all dirty, scars all over and you cry!
You missed him so much over the 4 years.
This war is finally over. He was only 19!
For writing this term we have been investigating Advertising. As a part of this unit we have been looking into the author's purpose and why advertisers use bright logos, cool slogans, and fun and catching jingles. The 3/4s have become advertising professionals and have even created their own jingles!
Based on the “Cadbury” advert we changed it to be “Wouldn’t it be nice if the world was Cadbury, you could be a Wexford superstar!”. Students finished off the jingle with catchy sentences, where they imagined what our school would look like if it was made of chocolate?!
Watch the short presentation of the Jingles
On Monday the 24 April the Year 3/4 students at Peacock Campus made ANZAC biscuits. We used a recipe to put all the ingredients in a bowl and we took turns mixing. We made little balls and put them on a tray. The ANZAC biscuits were soft and very sweet. We took some home to share with our families. - PC1
In term 1 students learned about their home country of Australia and for term 2 we continued to look at how many Australians came here.
The Grade 3/4s were very lucky to have Yuhui and Chi from Geelong Arts Centre come to Wexford to teach us about Australian Immigration. It was a wonderful experience for our students to gain a greater awareness of their own and each other's immigration stories, their family stories and histories and where we come from and why.
Kahleah- I enjoyed learning about how and why people had to move to another place.
Jayla- I liked learning about other people’s stories about their journey to another country. I enjoyed making our own photos
Spencer- I enjoyed making our own immigration photo. I learnt what immigration means.
Last Wednesday lots of students from our class including: Tayla, Ruby, Ibrahim, Hser Ther Blay, Kaleigh and Razan represented Wexford in the Year 3-6 Athletics second level at the Goldsworthy Athletics Track. We all had a wonderful experience. It was exciting to see other students from different campuses all coming together to compete. To top it all off lots of us were also lucky enough to win ribbons on the day!!
On Tuesday students also represented Wexford in the Cross Country Run. Ibrahim from our class was proud to represent Wexford on both days. On Thursday he had very sore knees!! By Razan Alawad and Hser Ther Blay
Hendy Market Day
Term 2 for the Year 5-6 cohort is all about working toward our Market Day on Wednesday 21 June. We’ve been learning about Business and Economics starting with what an entrepreneur is and what makes a business successful. We’ve worked out our groups and business ideas, created a proposal form, and we’ve even had to persuade a panel to invest in our business. Last week we presented our business pitches to the panel. We used persuasive devices we learned in Literacy to help us make the most persuasive pitches possible. We’re very proud to announce every business was successful.
Now it’s time to get busy making our amazing products to sell. We’re also sending out letters asking for sponsorship and donations from businesses around Geelong. It’s a busy time. Now all we have to do is make our products and create our Market stalls and we’re good to go. On our Market Day, we’ll set up our businesses and be ready to sell all our amazing products to students, families, staff and friends. We look forward to your support because we’ve been working really hard to make this a success.
All the money raised from the Market Day will go towards providing resources for our Term 3 Inquiry which is science, and of course, we have to pay back the school for the initial investment too.
So please put Wednesday 21st June in your diary - our Market will be in the morning and keep an eye out for our announcements throughout the rest of the term.
Some of the things you can buy will be : Sausage in Bread, Popcorn, Lucky Dip, Waffles and Icecream, Fun Freckles, Disney food, King Sports Drinks, Face Painting, creative hair designs, play and arcade game, even buy hair accessories and more.
Our Mini Market Day is on Tuesday 20th June in the last week of term. Please come along and support our Mini Market Businesses!!
Some of the Mini Markets will have YUMMY FOOD and CARNIVAL GAMES including: Cookies, Loom Bands, Lemonade, Lucky Dips, Smoothies, Pancakes, Candy Bags, Pet Rocks, Cupcakes, Donuts, Hot Chocolate, Lolly Bags, Quoits, Tacos, Slime, Stress Balls, Golf, Ooblek, Op Shop and Ten Pin Bowling!!
Make sure you start saving your money now for Mini Market Day!!

Early on in the term our class walked down to Corio Village to have a look at how shops advertise their products and businesses. We were also on the lookout for brand names, slogans, pricing, billboards, commercials and music used to persuade consumers.
It gave us all a different perspective when visiting our local shopping village and helped us to focus on some ideas for our new mini Market business ventures. By Marshal Brown
The Excursion this term is to Queen Victoria Market. We are learning about small market stalls, advertising, products and how they are run. We can buy stuff with our $20 while finding out what we could do for our own Mini Market Stalls at school. Hopefully we can get some good ideas to use at our stall “Friends and Co Op-Shop”.
Please support our Mini Market Day businesses at Wexford!!

In our SRC meetings each fortnight with Mr McCredden we have been talking about how to solve the rubbish problem in our schoolyard. The SRC decided to give out buckets, claws and gloves to each class so they can reduce the amount of rubbish outside.
Some classes chose their focus students to do the rubbish pick up, other classes have chosen to do it during Brain Breaks with their whole class. It was up to individual classes to decide how to go about rostering students to clean up.
The SRC organised a map of the school grounds and marked on it each class's selected area they have to clean. On our first clean up our class filled a bucket of rubbish. The next couple of times we got a lot less rubbish!! By Ibrahim and Zaiden - SRC Reps WD2
This Thursday there was a little yellow bird in Miss Rice's room. This was a super funny moment for WD2 walking into the class to find a bird flying around.
The bird left the class to go back in the wild but then the little yellow bird came back and hopped all around the class and was picking up food crumbs off the floor. Then it found the WD1 door open, at that point the bird just flew around the classroom.
After that the little yellow bird got caught and was taken to the office. We think that it was somebody’s pet bird. We put it in a box so that it could be taken to the vet to see if the owner could be found.
That got us thinking that we should see if we could get a school pet. We have not got a school pet yet but tell us about what you think we should get. Have you ever had a class pet before? Write and tell WD2 if you have ideas By Corey
This article about the Geography ERP at Wexford was just too late for last term's nesletter but it is of too much interest to not be highlighted - a little late
Last term we did an amazing showcase for our Geography ERP. Most of the students focussed on doing slideshow presentations and we were trying to link our learning to an interest and then compare it in different geographical locations around the world. We were trying to learn more about Australia and our focus country through our comparisons
All of the Prep to Year 8s came over to have a look at our fantastic work. The P-2s loved our work and we gave them all mini flags of the countries from each project to glue into their passports. The little students loved getting the flags and finding out about what country they were from and the different interest focus’ we all had. We felt proud of our showcase. They all had a great time! By Ruby and Kaleigh
This term the Year 3/4s have been practicing their handwriting, working on gaining their joining license. The students are really focusing on forming their letters correctly, using dotted thirds writing paper to help. Some of us have been lucky enough to use playdough to help form our letters.
